Has anyone out there sucessfully tuned an MSP with a MegaSquirt kit?? Darrell Cox Racing is doing my car and it is giving them a fit! Either they dont know what they are doing or the kit is garbage. Need to talk to anyone that has done this before!

there has been i think 1 person run the ms and it worked with the msp.. and if i recall correctly it was a pita for him!

I run MS2 on my 626, btw both 626 and protege use ford EEC-V ecu so... If you know basic knowlege about wiring MS2 is the best bang of buck for standalone EMS.

I'm a total noob to Mazda and the MSP, so only take this for what it's worth: I was surprised to not see more of the MSP builds using Megasquirt. Most of the BMW E30 turbo guys run megasquirt - The systems are available in various degrees of assembly vs DIY and option-levels which affect the price. Figure $1K for top-end options & assembly with a wideband O2 sensor included. There is a wide range of user satisfaction expressed about the MS product from "it totally sucks" to "perfect system for oddball turbo setups." Not for use on engines with variable valve timing (although some would argue that). More information here:

still, you figure if someone had ~$1k to spend on a standalone, they'd go with a haltech which has proven success on MSPs. not to mention the current ease of installation with the new patch harness! who doesn't like the idea of an essentially plug-n-play EMS? (flash)

A P&P system is hard to argue with. Do you have a link to the best recent thread on that topic?

it's probably around the engine management section somewhere

fourth product on that page is the harness i referred to

any specific questions you have about this setup could be directed to JDM Sam's PM box, he's pretty much the authority on haltech for mazda around here

MS is great if you want to DIY assemble an ECU and fiddle with all the separate software it uses, which really aren't that great. Factor in the time involved to put it all together, you could have just bought one and wired it in and already started tuning.

The reason MS is appealing to anyone, is because it's about $1,000 less than other stand-alone EMS. It's not a a EMS for newbs by any means, and you MUST have electrical skills, both schematics interpretation, and board soldering skills. Very capable, very cheap, however very easy to mess up...

As for conclusion, if you dont know s*** bout cars, or EMS, no miggysquirty. If you do know ALOT about standalone EMS and basic electrical knowlege, then MS is for you. I have MS2 and it cant run perfecter than it is right now. And its my first standalone, built from scratch by myself.

I have a MS1 V3 in my MSP controlling fuel ,timing and idle valve.Run great.

PM me, and elaborate on this set-up, if possible please. I'm looking to change EMS and considering AEM fic, MegaSquirt, and SS-AFC V2. If you could help me out with MS, that'd be sick. A buddy of mine is running MS on his E30 bimmer, and it goes like a bastard, so he can help me too. If you don't have the time, no biggie. How do you control the idle valve with MS ? My ilel pisses me off sometimes. Randomly goes lean, and is erratic at times. Thanks brother.

The idle valve is control in open loop PWM but soon it will be in closed loop.I have a map if you want it.The VE table and spark table is good for 17 psi with stock turbo. The longest part of tuning is the cranking setting. It's very easy to use simply read the megamanual a couples of time to really understand how it works. Before MS I never tune a car of my life the only part I dont tune myself is the spark table over 100KPA(in boost) I let a professional do it on a dyno.

MSII eventually will be popular once theres a strong support community with-in MSP/Protege owners.

Its not hard , all you need is the right info as in any other EMS system.

It would be nice to get info and maps to make a collection from those that already running MS EMS successfully.

I'll be starting a thread once I have mine running shortly.

Yeah at that time Emanage seamed to be the right choice but then quickly changed my mind due to change in plans on going for 400whp target so I got myself a MSII with some option customized by me and some that might make it in the future as well ex: TT build in w/ fan's running, Meth-kit control etc..

How you doing with your AFC ?

actually, it is running great
after the FMIC upgrade, it started atcing weird, but thats because i had alot of little problems here and there..exh leaks, bad coils, bad cables etc.
today will be the day i try it out and see what else is wrong.
