The best I can find for a protege engine with decent mileage is 1,000 around here. I'm thinking that the ease of installation is worth something, plus i don't have to change the tray between the engine and oil pan. So, 1,500 really isn't that bad. Plus I can sell off all of the extra parts off my old engine.

I wrote him, but he hasn't written back yet. His listing says no warrenty so unless he'll honor a warrenty I'm not getting it from him. Good find though.

says it has something like 50k miles.. that's low..

I have found several under 30K and one under 20K. The main issue is the lack of warrenty. I can't afford to risk any money on something that someone won't warranty against DOA.

Yeah, he wrote back and said no warranty. I found one with 18K and a 101 day warranty for $1,000. I'm going to call tomorrow and have the junk yard pull it. Now I have to get some motor mounts and gaskets.
Someone in a previous reply indicated that on a MT engine there is a difference with a bold on the starter. Does this mean they have a different starter? What is the difference? I just want to know if I need to get anything else prior to swapping it out.

well there's like 2 bolts in one of the trans housings, and 3 bolts in another.. dont really think it has anything to do w/ the motor...

Thanks, I'm calling a junk yard today and ordering an engine with a warranty. I'm also ordering some parts...
I beleive I just need:
1 exhaust manifold gasket,
the two gaskets for the tray between the block and the engine
motor mounts to replace the broken ones.
Is there anything else I should order to do the swap?

not sure what you mean about:
two gaskets for the tray between the block and engine
the oil pan gasket is just RTV.
while you're at it, you should replace the drive belts. and the timing belt..
when are you doing the swap?

Well, I'm picking up an engine tomorrow at 4pm. I found one with 33K on it with a 101 day warranty. I'm going to be installing it this week. Hopefully I'll have the car on the road again this weekend. It's been off the road for over a year now. I'm excited. I have a few parts to order but nothing major. It's going to be great to have the car back.

Thanks, I'll keep you in mind. Also, I beleive this engine has the intake manifold. So I'll let you know if I have an extra.
