Mazda Speed Protege
I'm looking for a replacement engine for a mazdaspeed protege. I'm looking for something local hopefully. I live in the Baltimore area. I have cash and I'm ready to purchase and pick up. I don't need the intake or exhaust manufold, if you have all of that I'd still be interested.

I'd also be interested in a non-msp engine as long as it's the 2.o engine. Let me know asap ... i have a trailer and cash ready to come pick it up.

check ur local salvage yards man! that would be ur best bet! or order one online! u just need any fsde 2.0 liter engine.

I checked and there are a few non msp engines in my area. I am assuming all I'll have to do is change the cams and install the tray above the oilpan.. Aside from that they are the same.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the engines between manual and automatic? I notice that many sites have them listed seperately.... thanks for any advice....

no difference. you doing the work yourself?? if you aren't.. lmk. i do this stuff all the time.

I"m about an hour away from you

My friend and I are doing the work. I'm expecting it to be pretty straight forward. All these people at the junkyards are idiots. They keep saying, you can't put an automatic trans engine in a manual trans.. car.... I know they are idiots. but they want to argue with me every time I tell them what I'm doing.

Still looking for an engine if anyone has something............

If you get an N/A motor also swap the oil cooler. If you want to swap the the plastic cover you will also need to swap valve covers.

just tell them to sell you the short block, they are dumb asses and are trying to make extra money because our car says SPEED.. we all know there is no difference between the n/a auto 2.0 fsde and n/a 5spd fsde and the speed fsde... tell them you have a 2002 lx 2.0.. then they will sell it cheap.. if i didnt need my spare motor.. id sell it..

I found a 2002 Protege LX engine with 18,000 miles for $1,000 plus a $200 core charge. I guess that sounds like a good deal. I'm going to leave this post open and make a decision this afternoon.

Still checking out some other options. Thanks for the help from everyone.

check craigslist too...

do you need the intake manifold?? i'm looking for a spare..

All the engines are essentially the same, but they all do differ a little bit.

The MSP 2.0L has an oil cooler and a different bearing support plate which allows for oil return from the turbo. You can use NA engines and swap these parts over from your previous engine, or just tap into the oil pan if you don't want to swap the bearing support plate.

As far as the auto vs. manual differences, it's a matter of one bolt on the starter.. other than that they're the same engines. So you can use any auto or manual NA 2.0L engine, they ALL bolt up, and swap the oil cooler and support plate, or if you get lucky just get a MSP 2.0L that will be a direct swap.

I have a good manifold on the car engine so if I get one on the engine I buy I'll let you know. I'll give it to you in return for your help with any questions I may have along the way.

I checked craigs list and there is nothing there unless I was a whole new car. That's not worth it. I'd rather go with what I have an know what's under the hood.

woot. awesome. yeah i can give you a hand i believe.. if you get a straight up long block- it'd be sweet. all you'd need to do is swap the oil girdle(support plate) and the oil cooler i think..and the obvious-turbo manifold, trans.

there is a little more you have to do to swap a auto engine to a manual other then the starter
