MSP 2731 Goes Forged

I'm just getting started. My car is stock motor and I'm building a forged junkyard motor.... I'm hoping the shop will look at my block and take some measurements to see if I need over bore or not, in the next couple weeks. Then I'll start ordering parts.

I think I'll go start reading up on everything TheMan says....

That is a lot of reading you've got ahead of you. PM sent.

I've replaced the stock spark plug wires with NGK's, replaced the coil packs, plug boots and the O2 sensor. My air/fuel is no longer bouncing all over the place. It is still on occasion going very lean. But the CEL came back and I now have 2 new codes. P0421 and P0300. Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) and Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected. My exhaust doesn't stink so I'm hoping my cat is still good. I guess next up will be to check the 2nd O2 sensor and make sure the spark plugs are gapped right. And my turbo timer has decided it wants to start acting up. I've done nothing to it and sometimes it works, other times it doesn't even though it is on and once it kept the car running while it counted down but shut off when it got 10 seconds into the count down.

I had p300...tried everything and could never figure it out.

It's just funny that after I rebuilt my head a-z, along with new built short block and replace my engine harness, I haven't seen a cel code since.

So last weekend I took my car to meet Damian and we searched for the vacuum leak all day and still couldn't find it. The thermal spacer on the TB was already removed and a new gasket was put on it but that wasn't it. So we removed the thermal spacer from the IM and put a new gasket on it but that wasn't it. We checked all the vacuum lines and did find that the one to the WG had a split in it, replaced it but that wasn't it. We sprayed everywhere with carb cleaner and the idle never changed. We even ran Sea Foam through it but couldn't see any smoke escaping anywhere. So the mystery leak is still a mystery. Since we disconnected the battery my CEL was off for a couple days but it came back as expected. But I'm happy to say the misfire code is gone. Hopefully it doesn't come back. Now in addition to the P0421 I have a new one, P0335 which is Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction.

i'm honestly feeling that the manifold may be a cause of the issue.. not 100% obviously until we change it out.

the sensor could have gone bad. if that's the case. i may have some laying around.

also, dont forget we had loose FMIC coupler clamps, which got fixed!

Yeah, next time I come up I'm bringing the stock IM and hopefully that will be the end of this annoying vacuum leak. And I did forgot to mention that loose coupler clamp. Thanks again for all the help so far!

one place i had a vac leak was from not cleaning/scraping off the old gasket on the throttle body plate that sits on intake mani; once we cleaned it off and put the new gasket back on, it solved the problem.

well then your machine shop is no good because every good engine builder knows that something with lots of rotating mass (flywheel) needs balancing with any sort of bottom end balancing! it won't be your fault for not knowing but it'll be their fault for not reminding you

the good shops I deal with ALWAYS ask for the flywheel AND pressure plate be brought in for balancing with the whole bottom end

furthermore, the crapdanza flywheels are notorious for terrible imbalance out of the box because they don't spend the extra effort in making a perfect product but instead just rush to sell the s***... at least the factory flywheels only need a couple of grams of balancing... the fidanza can take as much as 20 grams to do that in some cases!

damn, fidanza(crapdanza) is that bad sometimes (req. 20 gram shaving to balance properly).
first time hearing it, too bad no one seems to keep up with their product as time passes on.

so an update for you zach!

basically.. we're waiting on the 505 mani to be done. BUT, i have been working on things.

i've uninstalled the turbo, manifold, intake manifold, and s pipe.

we have to install-
CS S pipe
Garrett 28rs
440 injectors
perrin fuel rail
walbro fuel pump
505 mani

then i'll need to get the correct base map for this stuff and get a tune going.

You're the man Damian! If any of you fellow MSP owners need work done I highly recommend this dude!!

lmk when ull be installing that 505 manifold, i may come down just to check it out. gonna be a sick ride when finished and tuned

You should come check it out cuz that mani looks to truly be a work of art. We will let you know before the install. And thanks, hopefully soon I'll be able to offer you a ride in her.

The 505 mani has arrived and Damian is in the process of installing it. Here are pics of the mani, the ceramic coated Corksport S pipe and the disco potato... I'm starting to get really excited!
