MS6 really EVO, STI next rival...

So I'm on Youtube and downloading vids and was curious about the Mitsu. EVO, since this guy at my work just purchased a new EVO and knew of my Speed6...Right off the bat, he's pulling rank, telling me that my car has no business being compared to the two rally cars...and of course, he wants to throw down...I have never really seen an EVO in action...plenty of STi s, and if they are anything like them, i'm in trouble...so I'm watching these vids of these EVOs and all i got to say is DAMN...2.0L turbo and this thing is pullin off easy 12, 11, 10, hell even 9s...I'll get to the point...I know the MS6 is new for 06', but is the performance future bright and big HP tuning going to be readily available, as I'm probably going to keep this car for awhile, or should I just decline and run away with my tail between my legs...I love this car and i know theres big HP gains to squeeze from it, but just curiuos to see what other Speed6 owners are thinkin...Could this car be the next big contender???

This is what I am thinking....

I'm sick of people thinking the MS6, EVO, and STI are in the same class. They are not.

sti/evo = Rally bred cars and cheap econo box cars done up to be fast as hell.
MS6 = grand tourer/sport sedan ie Audi/Soobie legacy/ 3 series bmw/ Acura's etc designed to be comfortable, understated but still sporty/quick

exactly.
don't think STI,think subaru legacy GT

+1 to all these guys

But yes the car will have a bright future in the mod side of life but not EVO bright or STI bright.

Plus the EVO my be the best sport comp car ever.

why is that so funny, give me a better example.
the MR even eats the STI.

way it usually is explained is

03 evo < sti
04/05 evo = sti
06 evo > sti

The evo ix is really mod friendly with the new head spend $1200 and you have 330-350 awhp to do that in an sti you have to spend big $$ thats why the evo is mroe sought after by modders. Other then that its really preference. Plus it handles better out of the box and loses less power to the wheels due to the differnt drivetrain set ups...

Plus you can get a speed6 for what 22k new around here so there is also a big price difference

i honestly don't have a clue how nice the 06 evo's are, i NEVER see any around here. a lot of wrx'x, sti's, srt's, s4's(one kicked my ass on the freeway yesterday btw) and that sort of thing but i never see anything other than pussy lancers.

"why is that so funny"
haha it just sounded funny, "evo's probably the best car ever!!" ha jk

when it comes to the EVO VS STI 03 and up,it's a preference thing, exept for when the EVO MR comes into play, stock for stock MR Vrs. STI,the MR comes out on top every time.

you could probably race that evo even or maybe beat it if you get a few mods (definately a front mount inter., intake, exhaust, etc)....the evo must remain stock...if the evo is modded, theres no way you will catch up.

Today I sat down on my cold ass car (its starting to get cold) and i said "wait a minute....i got heat seats!!" that made my day...an evo/sti would have not been able to do that..gay, but just wait until you freeze you ass off and get in the car.

what? my friend's sti with an exhaust and a cobb tune is running roughly 320whp at stock boost. i don't really think he had to 'spend big $$'. where do you come up with your facts? you own an sti?

I agree that the ms6 isnt in the same category but as far as speed I beg to differ. I've raced a few Evo's and a few STi's now. I have catback, bov, intake. I have beaten 2 stock evo's and even kept up with a modded evo(exhaust, mbc). STi's i've beaten a few stock and lost to a stage 2(open dp) by a car. Our first and second gear is VERY strong, on all the races I just mentioned I pulled out of the hole or it was dead even .
Our car as far as speed goes is right there, but I agree its a differnt class, and in the long run an Evo/STi have much more potental for now :)

Is he? Must have had a pretty good tune then, really good at stock boost...from what I have been told by many sti owners is the stock turbo runs out of juice by 19-20 psi which is a big limit for the car. generally i have seen cobb tune an exhaust hit around 300 whp if that (with the boost at 18 psi) and most people say you need a front mount and some sort of meth/alk injection to think of hitting that whp number you just mentioned. Anyway cant count on a dyno i guess, the track tells the real story. Generally an sti hits what 225-235 whp on a dyno stock, I doubt he gaine over 100whp from two mods on stock boost. Where else do I get my information? Go cruise any subby board and look at dyno results I have never heard of anything close to 320awhp with those two mods on stock boost. So maybe you friends car is a factory freak or that dyno reads really high...

Heres a video of a sti hitting that awhp number you mentioned with an upgraded turbo kit....

And no I dont own an Sti but i researched them plenty while making my decision between and Sti and an EVO IX, if it wasnt for mod for $$ advantage I would have bought an Sti over my evo ix.

I traded in my 04 STI for a Speed 6, and I was willing to compromise performance for better looks, comfort, and luxury. My previous 04 STI was considerably faster then my 06 Speed 6, even before I added the Cobb Accessport. It's a true performer, unlike the Speed 6, which is more of a daily driver, and less enthusiast oriented. You were simply the better driver. It's really not all that close to be honest. Believe me I wish it was. The car accelerates so much faster, and is a superior performer in every way. Sure if you modify the Speed 6 it can be faster then a bone stock STI or Evo, but one or two affordable mods and it's lights out for even a modified Speed 6. The full second+ in 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile in road tests proves that theory true. Not comparable in performance whatsoever. The Speed 6 is comparable to the Legacy GT or the WRX in performance, not an EVO or STI.

I don't think thats right. I've seen theses videos of the 2 cars running 4 lapps and the STI spec D whooped 2 differt EVO's. It started last place and passed them. Plue the sti has that cool little wheel that lets you change the amount of power that goes to the front or rear wheels.

I would say that the evo and sti are so close performance wise that it really depends on the driver. As a result, theres always going to be arguing about the winner.

yeah a JDM Sti where the Sti is probably better, as far as USDM goes the EVo has the edge

Yes you are right, both cars are awesome, but they are also quite differnt if you have driven them both, its what ever you prefer.

The MS6 is sweet also sorry for threadjacking this discussion lol. Either of the three you choose cant go wrong, its all what you prefer!

it's what i saw at the dyno. i have no benefit of making it up. unless he has something done that i don't know about, that's what i saw
