Ms6 Apr

Rainman,

Have you looked at the legacy GT wagon? Its pretty swank. Lots of mods available to boot! Its 300/295 with just a chip...

Bank St. Mazda told me today that my car was shipped from the factory Tuesday of last week. They expect that it will be in T.O. by this weekend, and in my hands by Wed or Thurs of next week.

If I don't have that car by Friday, I am picking up a 2006 Volvo V50 T5 Wagon instead. We've been waiting for this car for a year now and my wife has been after me to cancel the order and pick up a mini-van or SUV instead. I told her that I couldn't do the mini-van or SUV thing. A kick-ass wagon I can do, but not the mini-van or SUV.

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that Friday I am driving a new black-on-black MS6!

Rainman,

The cars started being shipped from Vancouver yesterday. Yours has to go buy train because you're down east. I would guess arrival time of 10-14 days. But I can confirm for you that the cars are actually in Canada and on their way this time!! (yippy)

Yeah, I considered the GT wagon before I looked at the V50 wagon. I actually cancelled my order for the GT sedan last year when I heard that the MS6 was to come out soon. However, the premium of the wagon over the sedan is quite a bit and the APR for the Legacy GT is like 5.8% or 6.8%, which in turn makes the lease payments steep. It is cheaper to go with the V50 if I get a wagon, rather than the Legacy GT Wagon, although I'll be giving up a fair chunk of power and torque.

That is the best news I've had about this car in a long time. Not that I want to be the MS6 guinea pig or anything, but I needed a car to replace our 2000 Protege and I was not about to jump into something else while I waited for them to work out the kinks. I would rather take the chance that Mazda might have to work out some minor problems resulting in possible inconvenience than I would that I get dinged when I jump out of a lease early to switch to the MS6 after its second year of production. One is a sure thing, while the other is only a possibility.

My kids will almost be disappointed now. My oldest son was really getting excited about the possibility of us getting the V50. The Legacy GT was very "swank," but I found the V50 to be even more upscale and for a much better price (higher residual value helps lease payments).

the subie is awd...good gor the snow but not good for mpg when you cn't turn it off. :( Any more news on the speed 6? Was the "hood modification" an accurate guess?

The v50 is a nice car. My parents are volvo owners so I've gone through quite a bit from them. They've always been fantastic. Only problem arrises if you have to replace something at your own cost...the pricing for parts is off the wall rediculous. They jack up the prices just for them having a volvo label on them. Each headlight cluster on the V70R is about 1200 USD a piece....

I won't even get into the cost of the rotors...

The thing is DAMN fast though. The s60r spec's (not the v70r's) are very similar to an MPS 6's in terms of weight and power production...the extra cylinder does give the R the edge in torque curve though...but based on those setting the MPS 6 should run low to mid 14's with the possibility of a very high 13 if you wanted to hear the clutch scream for mercy :).

We drove by a V50 today and my son was literally freaking. He has forgotten all about the MS6 now. The V50 is the car for him now...LOL! I'm afraid he might take it to the Volvo dealership to trade it in himself if it should arrive on time...LOL!

The front end (not to mention the rest of it) is so damn bad ass. Since they don't have the APR for leases yet, it may turn out that the V50 is cheaper to lease than the MS6 is. If that is the case, I just might have to pass on the MS6. When I test drove the V50 on Friday, I spoke with the service manager. Apparently, he is a bit of a speed freak himself. He was all up on Volvo mods and had no problems with mods including standalones. He suggested that if I got a V50 and went standalone, I keep the stock ECU to put back in the car in case the engine went "Boom." That way it would be covered under warranty...LOL!

Woah...a good dealership too? The damn service rep in our area hates mods...so my father can't install his downpipe yet =/. The R's get another 50 whp and torque with a downpipe and reflash! :)

Rainman,

Your car was unloaded into the eastern Canada storage compound on Tuesday, it should be loaded onto a truck and taken to the dealer in the next day or two!!

At least I assume its yours, its black and belongs to Bank ST. dealer.

Ours are on the ground in Jacksonville, FL and should be here within a week or two.

Mazda3, I could kiss you brother!!!! I was so excited when I read this at work that I drove by the dealership after work to see if it had arrived. It just keeps getting closer and closer. I can barely handle it. I almost wish that you had taken a picture just so that I could see that it actually exists.

BTW, where is the Eastern Canada Storage Compound? I think that I'll start a thread, "Who Has Seen Rainman's New Car?" I'm like the last one to see this thing. Getting it will almost be anticlimactic....almost, but not quite....LOL!

Lots of pics will be forthcoming as soon as I get to sit my anticipatory ass in the black leather-upholstered driver's seat.

I gotta admit that I am gonna have a really hard time babying it for the break-in period. So much so that I am seriously considering the controversial hard race-oriented break-in that has been promoted by some on the forum (do a search, I forgot the link).

Here's to the sleeper look baby!

Yep, that is the ticket. Still not sure whether this issue has been resolved or not.

I say follow both methods. Don't baby the car...don't bash the car. Vary the rev ranges.

The race break-in works great...if all you were breaking in was the engine. There are alot of other components that don't like a harsh sudden breakin that much. I say combine all the schools of thought and use the best ideas from all of them :).
