MS3 TMIC pulling air from?

I'm new to the whole car/engine thing but I was looking at my engine today and was wandering where the TMIC was pulling the air from. There seems to be a kind of seal on the hood itself, that when closed creates a funnel to which air is pulled through, that funnel leads to a hole in the battery compartment. My question is why there? If the air is being pulled from there, isn't that kind of inefficient? Can't we relocate that funnel to a different spot where less engine(hot) air is being pulled?

I also installed a fujita cai in the car and there's a small hose going from the cai to somewhere below the intercooler also, so am i wrong about the funnel and is this where the air is coming from?

Just a bit confused, any input is appreciated.

...haha...you have never even looked in an engine bay have you lol. Ok I had my laugh. but look in your grill and you will see ducts. When the hoods is closed air goes through the grill, through the ducts to the top mount, the hole above the battery is to cool the battery.

I see the ducts but how is the air directed from it reaching the intercooler if the intercooler is being sealed by the mold in the hood? Or is the air being pulled up from underneath the intercooler then to the scoop?

ps - this is me learning about cars = )

go out side, turn on the light, pop open the hood and stare at the underside of the hood for like 10 minutes. It will come to you.

They started out pros. :)

Apparently. God forbid someone ask a question on a forum. I thought this was a place to learn and share? Wrong. This is the place where if you aren't doing something totally original, it's not worth sharing and if you ask a question, you'll be lucky not to get lambasted.

i kinda have to agree

hey amnestia dont listen to these knuckleheads, they install a CAI and a BOV and they think theyre ASE certified technicians. Guy is asking an honest question because he doesnt know and best we can come up with is "learn about cars". There is a difference between stupid and ignorant, the cure for the latter is asking questions, for the first there is no cure. And its about time I c someone in OC, Lake Forest here.

This is actually a forced air system, Like the old ram air with a twist. This only functions when moving, as cooler outside air is forced through a gap in the grille just below the hood. And when you lift the hood you will see ducting on the underside of it. When it is closed, this cool air is forced mostly down through the intercoolers vanes. Washing the cool air over the heated metal. In short this cools the IC which is a very good thing. Also the air moves around the battery because it is subject to Heat from Turbo I guess, There is alot going on but once you hear the theories it becomes alot easier.

I whole heartedly agree!

I actually wonder if I would be able to fit a more efficient intercooler under the stock shroud in order to maintain a stock look. Anyone know if I can do that?

First off, if you bothered to carefully read the posts, the recommendation was to hold off on modding until after he had learned, which isn't bad advice. You're so quick to jump down somebody's throat that you're ignoring the fact that the same poster answered the question. In fact, he did it in a way that was better than just answering it, he pointed the OP in the right direction so he could figure it out for himself, which is the best way to learn. I can't speak for everyone else, but I suspect that like me, they were shaking their heads because all the question required for an answer was to open his eyes and look! It wasn't about something arcane like the inner workings of the boost control system or whatever.
