Well guys, some of you may remember my previous thread asking about MS3/MSP headlights and if they would work with my P5 and after reading about having to change harness's and/or getting new H4 HID bulbs etc. etc. etc. i finally had a little chat with pfunk5 or whatever his name is (thank you sir you are very helpful)
and decided i'd just wing it - SO i bought the sedan black housing headlights off ebay for 150 bucks shipped, waited a week....when i got them they had included a set of stock H4 bulbs.
After seeing that the H4 was double the size of my H7 HID bulb, i starting to think, HOW could i fabricate this... (uhm)
i will get some pictures of if people would like but basically if you have ever seen an H4 bulb you can see that there is a round metal washer like piece with the little tabs on it that actually rests in the headlight and the actual bulb itself is welded to that piece with solder
i just used some small snips and cut those pieces after attempting to de-solder them failed, i then used a pair of line-mans to clean up the area in the metal and i had some nice little (basically giant washers) bases to put in the headlights that my H7s fit perfectly onto, the bulb went through the center and the black round area sat perfectly on the metal.
now the only tricky part was getting the little metal clip bent just right so that it actually fell into the grooves on the black part of the H7 bulb, but it wasn't that hard and i had to do that ANYWAYS on my old stock p5 headlights.
Verdict: So end result, i fabricated some NON P5 headlights from MPS/MP3 into my P5 and didn't have to do ANY re-wiring or waste money on different H.I.D. bulbs. (headbang)(hi)(breakn)(guitar)(flash)(yippy) (thumb)
Note: If Anyone wants to see pictures of the car, i can go take some and throw them up, and if you REALLYYYYYYYYYYY want to see what the bulbs look like in the back of the headlight housings resting on the metal H4 base pieces i might be persuaded to do that, but i dont really think its necessary, i figured it out in like 15 min. so now that i have filled you guys in, let the P5 headlight conversions commence!!! (this can no doubt be done with stock H7 bulbs. and if you are wondering i do NOT have high beams, i removed the bulbs and zip tied the harness's out of the way, frankly i dont ever USE high beams and i think HID's are more than enough light output)
8/6/10 - UPDATE:- I'm so sorry guys!!! i totally forgot about this thread completely!! i just took pics illustrating how i did it, hope this makes up for it!!! (braindead)
Installed (perfect fit)
Lights on
H4 bulb frame (back side)
H4 bulb frame (front side)
how to put the h7 bulb on top of the h4 frame (yes it just sits on top of there but the metal thing will pin it down nice and tight after adjusting it a little bit)
h4 frame into headlight housing first
next put h7 on top of h4 frame and pin that beast down with the little metal clip deal that you WILL have to bend a little bit to make it press down harder on the smaller h7 base
