Ms3 Mpg

i'm finding i can get MUCH better mileage driving with the 'auto' air control off... even better if i don't use the AC at all.

some cars AC can use a lot of extra fuel. this appears to be one of them. thoughts? :)

You could be on to something...I've been getting just over 18 lately (18.1-18.4ish), I think they went to summer grade gas! :D

20-22 MPG. I live pretty close to work (11-12 miles round trip) and drive through a lot of stop lights to get there, but it doesn't help that I like to push it a little :)

AC compressor will always make the engine consume more fuel than normal, that's in any car. btw, auto air is going to use the compressor regardless of the temperature setting.

tip...if the weather is nice enough just put the windows down and don't run the AC. once you start going faster, say over 50mph, you will actually consume more gas with the windows down than you would windows up and the AC on (read it somewhere or it was on myth busters or something).

I always laugh when people get impatient behind me when I'm coasting towards a red light in the distance, burn past me, slam on the brakes to stop for the red light, then I roll past when it turns green because I didn't even have to stop.
Except when they pass, then get in your lane and take all day to reaccelerate, GRRRR

Das what I do! Yea, Mythbusters tested it with Expeditions. (glare) Still get just barely over 18.

Got 279 miles on this tank (13 gallons) for 21.46 MPG. Yay warmer weather! When it was -30 all the time I was struggling to get much over 210 miles on that same number o' gallons, had a really bad 16 MPG run during the worst of winter.

27.8 with mixed relaxed and hard driving. This thing is pretty good on gas. When you first have the car sometimes they may leave them running so their radios can play music for the lot. This throws off the mileage big time.

If I don't see 300 miles on a tank of gas I'm disappointed and follow up by driving more conservatively.

HOW?!?!??!?!? I get 180 miles/tank if I'm lucky! It's usually down at the 160's.

I dunno. Drive pretty conservatively. Read this thread. There are lots of people getting 23-26mpg and even more highway mileage.

My driving is mixed, mostly suburban, 25-45mph with some highway.

My last tank was 26.8 (computer claimed 28), about half highway.

Funny how the computer is always off on the high side, but variably so. Sometimes it claims 3-4mpg more than I'm really getting and others, like this (1.2mpg off).

I just got my MS3 a couple weeks ago, and just used up my first full tank today. Calculated the MPG to be 24. Trip computer went up from 25.3 to 25.6. I drive about 80% on the highway and 20% city.

Just got a second tank of gas. Driving with less AC on this time around. Got 25.9mpg on the trip computer AND by manual calculation. Hmm... seems the trip computer is pretty accurate after all?

I'm not looking forward to summer here. It gets up to 120F some months, so AC is going to be on ALL THE TIME!!! (flame)

What sucks is it gets worse mileage the more conservatively I drive...I get like 20 for the first gallon or so then it drops to like 15 then picks back up and ends lower than it thinks at like 18's...it's the screwiest pos in the world! I don't get it?!?!
I hope my computer isn't off to the high side...then I'd be REALLY screwed!!! lol

Something doesn't seem right about your mileage. I've driven like an idiot for most of a tank and I got about 17MPG. I you in perpetual stop-and-go?

My trip computer was consistently 7-10% high during a recent survey on this forum. I'm still getting between 20.5 and 21.3 mpg. Short, slow (but steady) commute. Still better than my Ram (13 or so on the same commute). Didn't buy either of 'em for the mileage anyway.

Mine has varied from 18.7 to 23.4. I'm thinking of purchasing and installing the Mazdaspeed CAI. Does anyone know the average MPG gain from the CAI?

Dude(omg)(omg)(omg)(omg)
Either your car is broken, or you're flat foot shifting wherever you go.
I get 300 a tank when i'm commuting and never under 220 or so when I pretent i'm a race car driver.

My smiles per gallon are way up.
(silly) You make me a happy panda

Yeah, there's definitely something not right ....
