Ms3 Mpg

s***... how the hell are you guys getting such high gas mileage?

granted... it's like 10 below here so... yeah, that might be a factor lol

All I know is... 20mpg combined for a 4 banger (turbo or not) is absurd. Especially considering how I'm driving it.

+1
I show 21 on th puter, i show mebbe 260 miles when I pump 12.3 gallons in

I feel I should put a "W" sticker on the hatch,..... like all the other gashog SUV's

Im getting about 24-26 mpg consistently now. One time I filled up the tank and the pump clicked off and you know how you go back and top it off well the gas filled up until a lil spilled out the side. Must be an extra gallon, I got like 28 mpg and still drove it the same.

I just went 367.6 miles on a tank (28.8 MPG). Needless to say, that was 90% highway with the cruise set between 69-75, with a few more spirited sprints. The terrain was an even mix between flat and hilly.

I keep track of my fuel records here;

less weight how?

Lighter wheels, carbon fiber hood ... throw out the back seats, etc.

Not practical or cheap. It's cheaper to get poorer gas mileage.

Best thing is driver mod. I.e., learn to drive more conservatively. Maybe get some hints from hyper-milers. For example, I use my brakes as little as possible. If I have to brake for the next stop light I've used the gas too much. This annoys the living s*** out of many drivers.

Other ways:

1) If it is a small commute, throw out your seat as well and use an inverted milk crate
2) Don't wear heavy jewelry
3) Eat a small salad during lunch
4) In the morning completely clean out your bowels

etc

But seriously I do that too.....I hate braking and if I see a red light several yards away, I take foot off the accel. Of course that pisses off the drivers behind me, especially the ones who are trying to get to the right turn lane ahead. Oh well, if they pay for my gas I will race to the red light!

And if they tailgate me, I do the natural thing...........I slow down.

^^^you could also befriend your local party store clerk and get as many helium balloons as you can to fit in the car so it can weigh less

^^^you could also befriend your local party store clerk and get as many helium balloons as you can to fit in the car so it can weigh less

that would reduce traction and leave you with the same mass to accelerate

oh, you were making a joke. is this what you humans call humor?

yea i drove from San Diego to San Luis Obispo and got about 29 mpg with some LA traffic too. Maybe my car is a factory freak and gets good mpg but yea coasting down hills and staying in neutral when you approach red lights really helped

Been doing a lot more mixed driving to gauge things.

Mainly highway, I can pull down 26-28mpg real world....ie DIC reads 10% higher.

City, 18-20mpg. Again, DIC reads slightly higher.

Overall, I'm happy.

Same, this happens to me ALL the time. Some people are so impatient and .... stupid.

Totally agree. If people paid attention and looked beyond what's right in front of them they would see that there's a red light ahead and understand why I'm coasting:rolleyes:.

Another reason why our freeways are more congested than it should be becasue of short-sighted drivers staring at rear bumpers in front of 'em.

Anyway, MS3 got some conservative low gas light. It comes on with 3 gallons left, that's over 20% remaning. Computer says I'm averaging 27.5, but it's more like 25. Last fill-up was 24.5mpg, 50/50 driving.

Driving around the city, I'm pretty consistent about getting around 18.5. But I am addicted to that turbo, and the stop and go traffic doesn't help. I made a trip up to Syracuse from the DC area, and I was getting around 32. Cruise control set at 80 mph.

Just got 24.2MPG on my last tank, the air temp here has dropped from ~90F to ~70F during the day for the past couple of days. My last tank was 21MPG.
