Ms3 Mpg

It will not harm your engine unless you're running at high compression and high temperatures...like in the MS3 turbo engines.

87 is more vunerable to pre-combustion under high temps and pressure. I would compare it to driving with your timing a few (to tens-of) degrees off...except a much greater force is involved when the detonation occurs.

I wrote a big post on this (Using 89 in my example)... Using 87 may not be as bad as people think (the manual even says you can use it when you can't find 91), but I still don't think it is worth the risk for the small savings in price.

I think I've filled up with shell 93oct everytime so far except once and I get 21-22mpg just about everytime. I very rarely drive on the highway so that's probably 95% or more city driving only with a few 2nd-4th punches here and there... I'm happy with that

I average a fairly steady 25 mpg for the most part. mileage on display in car is slightly optimistic @ 25.6 to 26 most of the time. Exact calculation yields 25 to 25.2

Actually, I wrote a big post on this and a lot of people participated. If your trip computer is that close to the real thing, you have the most accurate one around. Most people consistently report errors of 2-4 mpg. I average right around 2.5 (where the computer is too high), but I have had the computer be off by as much as 6 mpg. (Again...too high.)

I have had a noticable difference in mileage now that it's warmer out. The engine temps are averaging 10-15*F higher now that it's summer, however. On my last two tanks, i ran ~300 miles, whereas I typically get ~320-360 for my work commutes.

You know i noticed the same going on with mine. for some reason getting a little hesitation when rolling on the throttle in 6th and 2-3 mpg worse on the mileage.

Mainly have been averaging 27 with 80% highway.

320 miles per tank??

Im getting about 320 miles per tank of gas in my 08 speed3, how many mpg am i getting like 20??? I just dont see how people are getting like 30 miles per gallon on these cars...i dont drive mine hard at all and its bone stock??? unless im not doing my math right

Are you doing any math? ;)

Next time you go to the pump, divide your mileage by the number of gallons you put in to fill the tank. However, be aware that there are some stations that don't completely fill your tank...

BTW, we have a 14.5 gallon tank. So, if you're running it bone dry (which I hope you're not...), your mileage is about 22mpg.

I doubt the OP is running it dry, my wife's light comes on after we've burned about 11.2 or 11.5 gallons so he may be putting in 12 gallons or so, but I am just guessing...I'd like to see how many gallons he's putting in.

I fill mine at a little less than a quarter tank. my average fill up is about 10 gallons and i usually get 170-190 in a tank. which equals 17-19 mpg Im stock too

Jeez. You guys get horrible mileage. I have only put more than 12 gallons in my car once. I typically average 25 but I've seen as high as 33 on a road trip.

Yeah, you need to manually calculate your mileage... Divive trip miles by gallons. People get 30 something or so when they go on road-trips or stay out of boost for a while. I never use the highway and usually drive it at a moderate pace. I average low 20s... around 21-24 MPG... One tank I got 27 while driving her pretty hard. I was just on the highway for a good amount of that.

EPA says 18 city, 25 highway. People getting 30+ consistently must be seriously babying their cars on lots of relatively low-speed highway miles. I drive about 70% highway miles and average 23-24 mpg most tanks. I happen to run A/C 80-90% of the time (in FL) and set cruise control around 76-77mph for my commute. Seen as low as 19mpg when driving high revs at Deal's Gap, and as high as 32-33mpg on a road trip where the general route was more or less downhill (NC to FL). Bone stock.

I hear a CAI/SRI will not only increase power when driven with spirit, but mileage when driven with caution.

So far all my driving is city and I am def not drive to save gas and i get around 130-160 miles a half tank which i am just doubling to give me a estimate on how many i am getting full ( hope that is correct, correct me if that is not a accurate of doing it) but i am guessing when i go back to school and drive highway with cruise on i will get 30 easy.

The "half-tank" line is more than half a tank used. The only accurate way is to fill completely every time and calculate miles driven vs. gallons pumped.

This car gets great mileage when you keep your foot out of it, but other than road trips where I fire-and-forget (cruise control), it's hard to do that. (rei)

fuel mileage discussions should be banned

Especially idiotic ones such as this.
You are probably getting around 25-26 (I divided your 320 miles by 12 gallons - what I normally fill to).
Basically your math is flawed, not your car :P

It's because I drive 98% city. I rarely travel freeway, only because I dont need to.
