Same as my ms3 turbo life thread.

How long should the clutch last if used as a daily driver (1500-2000 miles per month), no track, limited mods?

The reason I ask is because I burned the hell out of my clutch last night going from 2md-3rd (didnt take my foot off the clutch haha) and it smelt like ass.

Also, has anyone upgraded the clutch either by choice or because it was mandatory due to wear?

If you don't drive it like a neanderthal it should last well over 200k

I have run quite a few manual tranny cars into the ground, and NEVER had to buy a clutch. Heck, I don't usually have to do brake pads until near 100k miles :)

That's like asking how long the tires are going to last after you mention that you do burnouts. Uhm...is that your next thread? ;)

Just messing with you. I don't think I have heard about anyone having to replace the clutch yet in this car. It's too soon to tell I would say. Like anything though, it depends on how you drive.

This clutch is tough. I drive fast pretty much all the time, do tons of burnouts and slip the clutch a lot and don't ever smell it. A lot of it, like already mentioned, is on how you drive. It bites as strong as ever @ 31k miles. But it's still way too early for me to know for sure. My guess would be at least 100k.

Oh and I'm not trying to say you can't drive because you smelled it. Once or twice isn't gonna kill it. If it happens often though, then you could have a legit issue or need to pay closer attention to your timing.

Ive smelled the clutch a few times now in less than 2k miles. One in up hill stop and go, and another time at the track.

Its the worst smelling clutch I have ever encountered.

i am neanderthal brake pads at 20000 tire @ 17000 hah good like smell of tire and pad. smoke is fun fast go fast stop ha me like. clutch smell not so much

Drive mine pretty hard and have never smelled the clutch. In my Evo, you could go through the gears fast and smell it.(boom04)

smelled the clutch maybe once or twice in the 18k miles i have drivin my car...it wasnt from taking off hard to burnin the tires but from the exact same reason as the OP said haha late nights mostly when i was tired. But my clutch is fine, a few times wont hurt it.

I was wondering about this as well. I was already contemplating buying the spec clutch stage 3. hehe...not that my clutch is slippin, but i want it to bite harder. smelled it 3 times in 27k. last time was horrible, stayed for days. but it's gone now. smelled bitter.

the clutch does have a 12,000 mile warranty on it from mazda unless it can be shown that you abused it

When I got my engine broken in, I call up my dad and I'm like, wanna take it for a spin?? He used to driving either his auto accord or our beater 5 speed pickup, but I figured he could drive stick alright. He got to a light and burned the clutch upto about 3500 rpm!!!! I WAS FREAKING OUT!!!!! At least he didn't a grind a gear!!!!

Yes, I agree, the smell can and will wake the dead!!

Ha^ I believe Mazda knew full well what kind of car they made and how it would be driven by us enthusiasts. But I believe the Shelby Super Snake has more warranty than we get. But yes those do cost a bit more money or maybe alot more money.
