MS CAI or Cobb SRI

I am actually curious on this though I'm not trying to fight with anyone. I'm looking to purchase an intake in the future. The testing on different dynos makes sense but I dont see how the cobb would be equal to a cai in performance. I'm not saying the cobb is bad in any means I'm still considering it as an option for its price, ease of install, and sound but for overall power I dont see how its at the level of a cai. There has to be a reason to pay the extra money.

Extra piping/ metal, that's my guess...(scratch) - This is really the only major difference.

I have the cobb sri with a race pipe and it feels much stronger than stock. Hydrolock is a real issue for people that live in flooding areas.

Not that anyone cares, but I use a Cobb SRI because of Flooding and Cleanliness. Here's my argument.

Remember all your other previous cars using a CA intake?
Remember how freakin' dirty your filter was when you did decide to check it?
Regardless of puddle, cow patties, road kill, or anything else, the clear fact that the filter is exposed close to the road and a spinning tire that throws up dirt and road grime constantly, it's gonna get dirty exponentially quicker than an SRI. And those black plastic covers only protect so much. The CA is still SUCKING air and dirt and everything else that's blowing towards it as you rush down the freeway at 95mph+.

Yeah, the Cobb stays pretty clean.

Clean versus dirty. Change your oil more often? Change your air filter cone more often? Spend the time and money, it's yours. But I'd rather take the chance of a car that moves than one stuck in a temporary river (you never know when a torrential down pour decides to ruin your perfect drive).

And come on, we're talking about Cobb products here. Is that decision really that hard to make?

Dude, what in the hell are you talking about? lol!!!

But yeah letting this thread die would make sense as neither party can provide "proof" in what helps produce more power than one or the other. However, I do believe there were a few members that tested a CAI and SRI on same Dyno same day and the results weren't notable. Either way we're all going to have our own opinion.

Alright, I'm sorry for going off topic and I'm sorry for "attacking" someone on here, it's not normally me. But good god ms3007!!! Are you serious!? How about this for a gotchya... Search the forum for "Ha-ha!" Notice there are only two people that use the phrase "Ha-ha!" with the same friggin capitalization. Give me a F'n break! Quit with the charades already. Absolutely ridiculous. (Done ranting)

He's right. It's pretty obvious who you are and everyone knows it. So why not just admit it and stick around.

I vote if you can find a MS CAI buy it and turn it into a SRI and no hydrolock to worry also no warranty to worry about either. Honestly I think if your cool with the dealership a SRI isn't gonna get your warranty voided.

Is the MS CAI in pieces to where you could only use half of it and be a SRI or would you have to cut it and stick the filter on the end?

I'm pretty sure on the bottom part of my ms cai has the o2 sensor. So I don't think that short ram would work

I believe that a CAI is more effective on higher revving engines like vtec honda's. A SRI is much more practical for a ms3 motor.

As far as hydrolocking goes, it is very unlikely to happen. Unless you live in Florida. Heard of it happening to few people around town. I had a civic si with a CAI on it for about 4 years and never any problems. It rains here in Orlando about 2 or 3 times a day everyday of the summer and occasionally other times throughout the year. And my filter was like inches from the ground.

you should do the cobb sri b/c "its pretty" (gf quote)................hahahahahah
