MPI Tuner Anyone?

Well, the Mazda Protege has nothing to do with the Ford family other than the ECU.

Mazda doesn't really have a whole lot in common really with anything Ford does. The Tribute and the B-Series trucks are about it right now, aside from the Duratec V-6 in the Mazda6.

Anyway, according to Nick (typo above) they have an MSP running this set up and it works great, I guess. I haven't seen any dynos on it, just some drag times he has posted.

As for the problems with your car, it sounds like yours slipped through the cracks...
Ford does use Mazda parts in some of their cars and trucks, as does Mazda in theirs.

We have the engine out of the MSP right now. We have some new things going in it right now. We will do alot of dyno test this spring. We are the fastest street Protege that I have seen on this forum. The MPI Tuner is the main reason for this. Our goals for this years is to run flat 13s to high 12s. The Honda guys should not have all of the fun.

Thanks again

Man, this battle of the Nick's has created quite a few pages to this thread.(bicker) Dude...I want this MPI piggy back computer now! If I ready correctly, it controls air/fuel ratios, timing, boost...just about everything we need to keep our cars from stumbling, and it is about to be $575? I am all over it if it really does all that for that price. I was about to purchase a Greddy Profec B Spec II from my contact @ Greddy. If this computer controls it, with two different settings, and helps with the stumbling and makes the car run leaner, count me in! I am still afraid I won't know how to hook it up or properly calibrate it. However, if there is good support to help me work through that, put me down for one. I am in the works for selling some parts from my other car. Once those items are gone, I will have the funds for this MPI. Please email me or PM me with the breakdown I might have missed in the 20 some pages of this thread. I was trying to get the bottom line, but I think I lost it in all the arguments and confusion and resposts. Thank man, Nic (with no k) (wink)
The piggy will control a/f ratios, timing, boost (not sure what you mean by that)..the unit can be calibrated to finally rid the stumbling problem...withought just adding timing like mada did!

Nick is a really good guy..he will be able to help you install it..it's not very difficult..but you will need to know how to solder!

Nick,
Will you be able to post dynos of that MSP? Thanks!

Chris
We will be having a dyno day this summer. It will be open to anyone to show up and watch or run their car. As we dyno the cars one by one we will post the dyno sheets on the forum.

Thanks again

That will work for me. It is great to be part of something that works.

Do you have those pics of the four extra injectors in the intake manifold Nick?

And could you send me a copy of the pdf manual to read?

***Edit for spelling***
I cannot find the photos of the four injector setup. I will have to look more.

Thanks again

Later....Nick

I sent the file last week, did I not. I will resend it again.

What's this about the $575 price?? Did i miss something? Do the extra injectors come with it? I'm STILL waiting on AEM, but for that price I'd drill two holes in my IC piping. Anyone got more details? MPNICK??
BTW, so does it control boost or not? I got profec b spec II, so I don't really care for the boost control. Let me know,

Thanks,
Vik

It will not control boost if you run extra injectors. The $575.00 was the price for the group buy last year. The normal price last year was $675.00. Your boost control unit is a very good unit, I would keep it. The extra injectors are an option.

The MPI Tuner now comes with launch control and improved closed loop control.

I read through the manual about the software that you sent me. Thanks.

I have a question though, the MPI Tuner is capable of running off of the crank sensor, but you chose to drive the coils instead.

Is this so you can add and remove timing? I saw form the manual that off of the crank, you might not be able to add or take away as much?

Am I reading this right?

And do you have a pdf of the installation itself that I could look at?

On some cars we do use the crankshaft sensor. For the Protege we drive the coils because it work out better. On odd tooth wheels we only do timing retard. On even tooth wheels we do both timing advance and retard, but we are limited to how much.

Ok, thanks for the clarification on that. So, because you drive the coils and add or take away as much timing as the unit will allow, that gives you the traction control set up?

Or is the traction control run in a different manner.

And, how does this compare between the stock MAF and the 80mm MAF you sell? Or does that not really effect timing much?

We have launch control for drag strip runs. I do not claim to have traction control. Real traction control would take four wheel sensors, one at each wheel. I know that there has been some talk about traction control on this forum. So I want to make sure that we are all clear on what it is and how it works.

The launch control is part of the MPI Tuner and Turbo module. It does not matter if you have the stock MAF or our larger one.

Thanks again

Sorry, meant launch control...My bad.

Look at the two little "silver" pieces above the MP3 engine cover on my avatar. Also note the thing just to the right of the engine cover.

Beavis, you avatar is too small.

Nick. If I run extra injectors, will I be able to use the launch control feature?
When is going to be available?

Yes you will still be able to use the extra injectors. I am still waiting for a micro relay. When I get them I can build the units and ship them out.

Thanks again

So what is the price now? Without a group buy, and no extra injectors.
BTW, how will I be able to run with the stock injectors? Only to 10psi? And what does the extra injector option cost?
Is there a website with some info? I thought there was but I can't remember what it is.

Thanks.
