Laser Blue Mica MP3
Hey Everyone,
I am looking into buying a used MP3, but I am a bit concerned about the reliablity of the tranny. I have read alot about how it can't take too much abuse (not that I am PLANNING on abusing it) but I would like to know everyone's experiences with it so far (i.e. problems, concerns, etc.).

Also, I know this is on the wrong forum, but would anyone happen to have a set of stock tailights and/or the stock intake system for the MP3 for sale?

Thanks in advance everyone!

hey welcome to the boards!!!!
The tranny is fairly tough, I am kinda hard on it and nothing has let go as of yet... but the clutch on the other hand sucks! but this is easly remidied with a replacment from clutch masters. I will soon be looking into getting a high porformance clutch.

I have a stock intake system for sale!! email me at promp32001@msn.com

I think there are some trannies that are just junk. If the car you are looking at shifts good even when its cold out and the car isn't warmed up.

The shifting isn't the best and when cold can really suck and many times the tranny simply doesn't like to go into second but everything seems to be on a case to case basis.

Tranny

Hey,
The tranny is just fine. Like most say don't abuse it and you'll be just fine. Even if it were to be a problem the MP3 is much worth it. My opinion is go for it the tranny is stronger than most give credit for. My third gear went out but thats cuz i gave it hell. U have to trade out things and understand when u abuse u will break things. Its all relitive.
Peace,
Zane

gizmo, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

The trannies are fine.....just remember....if you abuse ANYTHING long enough or hard enough...you CAN tear it up. NOTHING is dumby proof, and ignroance will always prevail over good engineering....EVERYTIME.

I have heard alot about this "clunk".... Just exactly what does it sound like? Is it a loud "CLUNK" when you go over bumps or is it like a "clunk clunk" kinda like rattling?

A clunk over a bump. Sounds like your carring someting large that isn't strapped down. FOr the longest time I though t it was my sub box.

Is there any remedy to the cold tranny? We're in the teens this week and if I'm not careful when I go into second, I feel like I'm really screwing something up. If I let the clutch out normally and accelerate after shifting into second, it doesn't catch right away, but does a second later and gives me a good jolt. Probably not a good thing. Would redline tranny fluid help this?

Chris

MIne was having issues like that for a wile. I just make sure the engine is at full warmth before departing and its been OK even since.

I broke my tranny, and i dont regularly beat on it...I power shifted here and there, about an avg of twice a month....less than one year into it the synchros went and then the tranny broke...i broke a gate going into third....if your gonna easy drive it no problem (which is what mine is now after tha problem)...if u wanna run it hard you might have problems......depends how bad your gonna beat on it

oh and i have stock tails laying around that i might sell to you (kurtburmester@hotmail.com)

LEts put it this way.
Compared to many other vehicals people who are drawn to this car also drive, ie civics, integra, sentra, this traany is garbage. These other vehicals can take 20 times the punishment that the MAzda tranny can. Its all relitive. If you use to tooling hard in an integra like I was then this car isn't for you, it tranny can't take the same level of use. I wouldn't even callit abuse. Shifts that should be no problem in any car can be a b**** in the protege. So just keep that in mind.
