mp3 ecu software

no, higher octane does not automatically equal higher hp lol. It helps because the ECU is tuned to take advantage of the higher octane gas. The mixture is leaned out a decent amount and timing retarded a couple / few degrees (no idea how much, honestly). The top end isn't really THAT much improved, but the real gains come in your 'everyday driving' rpms. The midrang is a lot fatter / smoother than it was stock. I did mine a couple months after getting my intake and header, and there was a noticeable difference

Close. The MP3 runs the timing a few degrees advanced. That is what requires the higher octane fuel to prevent pre-ignition.

my mp3 ecu help alot every where in the rpm, mostly mid, but the cuve dosnt drop off at 6.5k like stock, it now pulls to redline, the curve seems to have just bumped up a bit and go straight at the end instead of droping off at 6.5k.. well worth it for $100, oh and it does take 93, but my car is faster, and more fun... gas milage went up a little with the ecu, by mabey 1mpg.. though runing 93 vs 89 is like 3.50 differance for a full tank..to me 3.50 a week to have my car run better and a bigger smile on my face,is well worth it... think of it this way smiles per gallon :)

advance, retard, what's the difference? Oh ya, timing is advanced, and I'm the retard lol

I was actually looking for a more aggressive fuel map to go with my ze. I guess I could bug them a bit more, but with my 10.4:1 compression, I run premium anyway. on special occasions I get 100ll avgas from the corner.

Is the ECU that protegegarage sells the one that is being referred to here? It says for boosted applications and it is $250. 1st, are people running this NA, and 2nd, how do you get this for $100 as previously posted?

if it's for boosted applications, it's NOT the MP3 ecu.

out of luck. ECU controls shifting, and MP3s never came as autos

no, that's the Mazdaspeed Protege ECU. I really don't even wanna know how badly the car would run NA with that thing :P

OK, where would one look to purchase this ECU for a NA vehicle?

Aha! The essence of this thread--they're hard to find at a decent price. You can get it from Mazda for several hundred dollars, or a couple hundred if your fellow forum member races a Yaris, wraps his mp3 around a tree, and parts it out.

Im guessing like a bag of ass :D

But it would be easy to find where you have been, just light a match and follow the trail of raw burning gas on the ground.

yeah :P

I was tempted to just try it out since I've had the MSP ecu laying around for a few months. It'll be going in the car tonight, but I won't ever get to run it NA :P

Advancing the timing puts the spark before the piston has travelled to its top position. The time it takes the flame to travel across the piston is the same - but you get less time at higher RPMs - so you try to anticipate or 'beat the light' if you will. It causes higher combustion temps and increased NoX emissions as well as requiring higher octane fuel - so the manufacturer wants to use a more retarded spark timing.

For best performance you want the most advanced timing you can set without the engine 'pinging'.

Here's another question: Since the mp3 doesn't have vtcs, using its ecu (software) in the p5 will prevent actuation of vtcs in cold-start situations, correct?

Correct.. no more hearing the horrible crappy sounding noise of vtcs being active. The butterflies will just remain open all the time, or you can remove them as it's not too difficult to do the vtcs removal.
