Moving to Memphis

Well starting on January 1st I will be working for International Paper in Memphis. I'm curious if you guys know of any nice apartments near the downtown area. I'm looking for a safe area since I know Memphis is a little rough around the edges. I've heard Mud Island and Germantown are both pretty safe places to stay. Any suggestions?

Congrats on the new job. I live in Memphis myself but I sure as hell wouldn't move downtown. Too expensive and not to mention the crime in that area. I live maybe eight minutes from there and I rarley go down there. I might go see a movie or take my girl down there but that's it. Too expensive for the area and not to mention it's not very safe. If i were you I would move into Germantown Falls apartments or somewhere that can get you on the interstate fast. From there you might be 20min away from downtown depending on the traffic and or how you drive

I found a place that I liked in Germantown. It is called the Birches at Countryside. It is a couple of miles off the interstate and only about a 15-20 drive to work. The reviews seemed to be all positive and it looked like a good safe area.

Cool, I would have dreaded seeing you move to downtown memphis. If you would have next thing everyone would have heard was how bad it is there and not to mention possibilty of vandalisim to your protege. Congrats on the job and glad to see you found a place you like. Hope it all works out

I'm scared of Memphis. I only know 4 people that live/have lived there. See outcome below.

Person 1: Home invasion - sexual assualt
Person 2: Apartment burglarized, car burglarized
Person 3: Car burglarized three times
Person 4: Only lived there for 3 months and was smart enough to get the hell out

I'd sell Memphis to Arkansas for $3.00

I really don't think it will be bad there so long as I choose the right area to live in. I'll probably make the drive to check things out in a few weeks. If I can get a roommate I can afford to live in a very nice complex and should be fine.

Oh.....it will be fine. Germantown is very nice. I should not have been so negative. Memphis is known for it's crime but it's not all that bad.

It all comes down to where u live. And for god's sake if anyone ever stares at you stare back at em. If you look down it shows insecurities and might get jumped. What i'm traying to say no matter where ever u are always always watch your surroundings
