Move over cx-7 here comes the ex35

I know that you can't generalize and things happen with any car model, but I heard about some pretty bad things happening to more than one volvo...

well, arent they part Ford now too. i dont think there is one American car short of a Corvette Z06 that i would ever consider even leasing. That includes 100% American right on down to a 30% share (ie Mazda). There is just too much cross integration of domestic parts/involvement in these things that even tho they may be predominantly a foreign brand, there is enough stuff in the vehicle that is American that i dont want to be involved with

just my 2 cents

o and for what its worth, the infiniti can have all the tech in the world, when it comes out there better be enough vehicle there to hold all my travel gear and what not for 40+k

Is it me or does it look like some Hyundai Production or Concept model?

Too "organically" styled for my tastes...The CX-7 is sporty, sharp and smart...CX-7 = 1 / Hyundai35 = 0
I thought the same thing, Antoine!

Infiniti Santa Fe FTL ;)

Ford has controlling interest in Volvo, but not to buy one because of that is just ignorance. Volvo's don't share much with other families within Ford.

pfft I had one, NO serious problems what so ever, and we have a new V8 S80, what a WONDER that car is 3500K+ no problems.

Your lucky then. I've had TWO S40's, a 2003, and I have a 2005.

The 2003 never really had that many problems, just annoying ass rattles. Then someone rearended the hell out of me and it never was the same so I got a 2005 2.4i. I got it in Feb. of 05 and it just hit 25,000 miles. In that time these are the things that have gone wrong. I'll start with the annoying and move up to the downright dangerous:

1) Rubber stopper for sunshade poped out. Dealer never fixed it so I finally ripped one out of a loaner car they gave me and fixed it myself.
2) Approach light under left side mirror fallen out 3 times.
3) Plastic trim around back left door popped off and had to be replaced.
4) A little plug that holds the carpet up in the passenger side footwell came out. Volvo made me pay for the replacement plug (it was only $4.) When the tech went to put it in, he stripped the new one. So Dealer had to order another one, which he stripped again. Finally on the 3rd one he got it in right.
5) Radio would not respond after turning car on. Had the CPU reflashed 4 times then finally given a new head unit. New one did the same thing so replaced a second time. Still does it every now and then, so I have to pull car over, turn off and wait 5 minutes, then turn it back on to fix it.
6) CD player ate a CD and refused to eject it.
7) Dual climate control is set to LOW on both sides, but the left will blow out hot and the right cold. When I move both to HIGH the left is cold and the right is hot. Dealer can't duplicate, and only solution is to move it back and forth between LOW and HIGH until it fixes itself.
8) Front bumper gets rock scratches WAY too eaisly.
9) Seat belts are rubbing up on the sides of the front seats causing the leather to wear down and get scratched. Volvo refuses to repair seats.
10) Plastic panel under the steering wheel came loose and fell on my legs while driving, almost causing an accident.
11) Airbag sensor in passenger seat kept malfunctioning and turning off the passenger airbag, and had to be replaced twice.
12) Driver seatbelt broke one and wouldn't retract, so dealer replaced. Then it got jammed and wouldn't come out, so it had to be replaced again. Now the seatbelt is warped and deformed, so it needs to be replaced a third time.
13) Brakes squeal really loud in reverse and have been replaced 3 times.
14) A really bad ticking noise was coming from the front of the car. The first fix was to replace the brakes, thinking they were loose. Well that didn't fix it. So the next step was to replace the rotors. Still ticking. Then they tried replacing the shocks, still did it. Finally they replaced both front axles and that fixed the problem. It only took them 4 times at about 3-4 days each time in the shop to figure it out.
15) Absolute most dangerous thing that has happend was the car just shut off. I mean O-F-F. I'm driving on the highway and the car just dies. I managed to drift the car to the side of the road. Took the key out and put it back in and the car started just fine. Hasn't happend again since, but it happened twice when I had a loaner car.

I also have a bunch of rattles, but I just turn the radio up so I can't hear them. If you go to Edmunds and look up the 05 S40, you'll find most are positive, but a fair amount of people have similar problems to what I have. Unfortunatley I don't qualify as a lemon so I can't get rid of this piece of crap yet. Needless to say, this will be the last Volvo I ever purchase (and I would have been a Volvo owner for life if it wasn't for this car.)

Yeah I'm sorry to hear you had THAT many problems with your Volvo, I know they were not problem free vehicles and I have heard of some horror storys.

That was a recent picture before This happened,

I took some pretty bad pictures, but it rolled over, and retained most of its shape. I loved that damn thing, I want another when the redesigned ones come out soon.

The CX-7 was the second best replacement though.

Sorry, didn't mean to tread-jack.

Back on topic; The infiniti doesn't suite me. Looks feminine; the old model, was much more masculine. BTW, I know that sounds completely dumb, but just my first impression...

The infinity is plain fugly, the CX-7 doesn't need to worry about losing any styling contests to this hyundiru smash up.

Two of my neighbors bought their kids S40's and they are defect free for the most part. Everyone seems to get that radio bug though. It's a shame because I love the way the car looks but all these problems are driving me up the wall to the point when a lady merged into my lane today without looking to see if I was there, for a split second I contemplated just letting her ram into me so I could get the CX-7 sooner. But I decided the impact would have just done mostly cosmetic stuff and not total the car so I swerved out of the way and layed on the horn. Of course the lady was on the phone and had no idea any of it happened. I'm just afraid that since I've had airbag failures and seatbelt failures that if I do end up in a accident something won't work and I'll get hurt or worse.

Oh and I think the EX looks strange. If I want a G37, I'll buy a G37. If I need a SUV I'll buy a FX. The EX looks like it will be cramped and barely hold anything in the back, defeating the purpose of being a crossover.

there is no old model. this one is new, and the FX will still be sold

Totally agree. That grille may work on the sedans but it's doesn't go with that huge butt.

Now don't be so insensitive. Some people like women with big butts and buckteeth. They would find the EX perfect.

*Sorry if I offended anyone, I was just trying to make a joke.

LOL! I think maybe in my mind thats what I did to get my dad to pay for my car again. But yeah I'm glad I didn't had any problems.
