I have a 98 Mazda Protege ES with 109k on it. Lately I noticed while the car is idling in park the engine makes a gargling sound. When it does this the RPM's stay normal and everything else appears to be normal.. just makes the gargling sound for about 1-2 second then stops. Then it will do it again shortly afterwords. Anyone have an idea what could be wrong? Or what is about to go wrong  ?

Usually when you hear gargling thats coolant, is your coolant low? Do a coolant change?

I checked the coolent level and it appeared to be fine. I did notice the sound is definitely coming from the left side of the engine (pully side). Anyone have any thoughts? Timing belt? bad pulley?

re

try checking your alternator. if your battery is faulty the belts might be making some noise.
