Moonroof & Driver side switch

I am looking to do a couple of things to my car.

I would like to make the passenger side window auto (just like the driver side window)
Is this possible?
would I need another switch like the driver side switch?
How would I wire it in?

Is it possible to make the moonroof open & close on one touch of the switch? How would I go about doing that?

I like the idea of locking the doors after a minute or so, let me know when you are going to do that? I would love to do that for mine.

Good to see you on the forums.

Ok, what you need is auto-latching relays, and limit switches.

You can make any normal relay into a latching relay by simply wiring the coil back onto the relay it's self, you then use a limit switch to kill the relay once your window reaches an automatic point.

The limit switch would be a magnetic reed switch, that detects when the window has fully rolled down.

For example:
You tap the window-down button.
The relay closes...at the same time it begins to press the down button for you.
The relay will keep it's self closed, rolling the window down.
Once the window fully rolls down, the limit switch is hit, and the relay is disabled.

I have a few different circuits here you can look at that allow for automatic function.

It does require hacking into the switch, but not too much.

in regards to the passenger side auto, will i need to get a switch like the driver side auto switch

would this be the same mod for the moonroof?

As far as having the car auto-lock after a minute or so, you can do that with a timer, and relay.

Basicly a timer could be a 555-timer circuit, or a simple resistor/capacitor circuit.
(Search google for 555-timer circuit, or RC Circuit)

An 555 Circuit would be easiest.

What happens is the capacitor begins to charge when it receives power.
How long it takes to charge depends on how big the capacitor is, and how big the resistor is. (Search for 555 timer Calculator on google)

Once the capacitor is fully charged (After a minute or so)
You can use that signal to make the door's lock with a relay.
You can make sure the circuit doesn't work when the doors are already locked, by tapping into the lock-sensor inside the driver's door.
(this signal is also behind the gauge panel)

The lock sensor inside the driver's door is grounded when ever the door's are UNLOCKED.
This is good. As we can use this signal to automaticaly enable the circuit when the door's are unlocked and the car is powered on.

Ok....long story short:

555-Timer circuit starts counting when the car is started...after a certain amount of time the relay is closed...the closing of the relay causes the doors to lock...once the door's lock...the circuit is disabled by the lock-status switch.

As long as the car is running the R/C Circuit stays charged.
Meaning it shouldn't re-trigger if you unlock the door's manualy.

For the passanger side, you simply can tap into the existing switch.
This would however make it so you can't partialy role down your window.

The driver's side auto switch has four positions:

Press back- Window UP
Middle - Nothing
Press forward half-way -Windows go down
Press forward all-of-the-way the Automatic circuit kicks in.

Thanks for the auto lock? I will look into that. as for as the windows. i think i will probably pick up a driver side auto switch for the passenger side and replace that with the passenger side one

Would that cause any problems in the switch board?

If i do the automatic windows for the moonroof. I will only want the moonroof to open on (one-touch)

and close when i hold the switch since it could be a hazard if it auto closes..

How would I wire that

The driver's side auto-switch isn't just the switch, it's also a timer and relay.
I have images of the entire assembly here:

that blue and white thing is the driver's side switch.
The black box behind it is a relay, and the switch activiates a timer.

YOu can tie these into an alarm as well, but I just used them for mine, and found that they had the added "bonus" of one-touch up/down with built in limiting switches. If making up circuits is toomuch of a hassle for you, I reccomend this. You basically "interrupt" the 2 wires taht go between the motor and the switch for each window you put them on. so you'll have to cut into the stock and solder or crimp it in line somewhere. depending on where exactly, this might be driver's side function only.

same could be done fairly simply with the sunroof, I'm not 100% positive that you could get it independant of eachother, so you might have to make it auto both ways. however The sunroof already works off of a limiting switch And the unit contains one as well meaning thatonce it sees resistance, it stops.

so it sounds like I will only have the option to have window auto up and down, no half way. That also applies to the moonroof too...right?

will I have this auto up and down option in the auto loc system?

the autoloc does auto up/down but if you tap the witch again as it's raising or lowering it'll stop. I didn't like this at first, but now I Really do. my girlriend does as well. Infact I've gotta doit to her car now *ugH*

i went to the site, nice stuff. Do you have a alarm on your car or did you install it right into your switch circuit the module. Where did you hook it into?

You only did this for the passenger side right?

I initially got this to wire into my alarm, but the way it wires in, it uses signal off of your factory switches to activate as well. and I've done it for all of my windows actually.

I bumped in the top of the Protege5 section my initiall install pics of my front two windows.

thanks for your help, i think I am going to go that route. As for the pics, they will work great. Sometime when you get a chance could you send a pic where you cut the wires and connected them at. Since I will not be running a alarm, I just wanted to make sure it will work.

oh, yea it was working before I hooked it up to my alarm, the random speakerwire-like thing coming throught theskin of the lower door is my pair of "trigger wires" Cool thing is, if I want to, I could wire in a different single switchthat would just momentarily ground, and itowuld work all of the windows at once. Andyea, I'll graba pic of that soon for you hopefully I'll have all my doorpanels off tonight, hopefulyl I cna borrow a friends' camera.

Thanks for helping me out on the windows both zapwizard and Poseur, I actually went the route of auto-locs since they have a cut off for safety.

I was curious if I could place a auto-loc moduler for my moonroof and do the same thing

I have attached the schematics for the auto-loc moduler. HEre is more about the product

If it can be done, how would I wire it.

Thanks

Heyman, to answer you on why I said YOu don't need 2 in the driver'sdoor is because you can place them in each individua door instead. I've decided that due to space restraints, this is the best option, so I've been switching around my setup.

Here's some pics of my revised driver's side switch setup. Also installing one on my pass side, as well as the splicing I did. My power I took off of the red/white wire tat goes to the switch harness (that's the cheezy t-tap because I'm lazy and it's a tight fit inthere) Ground was made with a crimploop, and paint sanded away from one of the 3 botls surrounding the circular cutout (I believe these hold the window motor inplace) I interrupted on the motor side of the passenger switch. This allows for the passanger to bave one-touch control as well as the driver, but again more than anything else, tucked the module out of the way. My previous location of both modules inside of the door panel was sufficent, but I just think this is much cleaner. The wires could be interrupted at a different spot (such as where the input comes from the other side before the pass side switch) to make it only work for the driver, but where I spliced just gets you more outta it IMHO. Plus my gf gets a kick outta the deal and wanted it to work on her side as well.

As far as sunroof control, got me there... The switch itself works off of grounding. But it has it's own built in limiter. perhaps you can put some form of timer intot he system. Zap may be more qualifed on that one than I am I'll get pics of my relay-setup that I used for my alarm integration soon enough. but one-touch sunroof is a nice idea. especially opening.
