Mono amp/sub with stock head unit

I've installed plenty of systems, but never with a factory head unit... so i'm a bit confused. I ordered an amp, sub, LOC, and the other things i will need. The part i dont understand is how exactly to hook the LOC up. The guy i talked to at a local shop said you wire it parallel into the two rear speakers, but websites i have been reading say "simply plug in your rear(or front) speakers and convert your blah blah blah..."

Which is it???? will i still have my rear speakers working? i just splice into the +/- for the speakers correct?

My other question is, am i going to be able to turn the bass all the way down on the head unit and still have full control over the subwoofer(my amplifier has bass control)

It's an 06 hatchback touring with the bose stereo btw

thanks,
toby

Connecting the LOC:

The easiest way to install a LOC on the hatchback is to remove the factory radio and splice into the outputs for your speakers directly behind the unit. The wire color chart is available in the sticky thread.

If you have a 2-ch LOC connect the left +/- to the left rear +/- on the back of the unit. Do not cut the wires. Just use wire strippers to push away some of the jacket and solder (or just twist) the wire around and cover it up with electrical tape. Repeat for the right +/- by connecting it to the right rear +/-. Your rear speakers will still work after this as long as you do not cut the wires. That is why I said just strip away some of the jacket to expose the bare wire.

If your amplifier has a remote bass knob, install this in the front of the car. Set the radio bass/treble settings to 0 and when you want more bass, use the knob instead.

you just want to wire in a sub not any other speakers correct?

if so then you would want to splice (as in T not just cut) into your speaker wires (in reality it doesn't matter which ones as we have stereo, L&R sound not surround F&B+L&R) and plug your LOC into those wires then run your RCA's to your HU and since the speaker wires are after your headunit then yes making frequency adjustments to your HU are going to affect your signal going to your amp regardless of how much or little you control it with the rbc you are still controlling a signal that has x settings from the stock HU.

good luck its not that bad

DO'h 1 minute behind you chuyler!!!!!!!!!1

awesome thanks a lot guys.... now i just need to figure out why the website i'm ordering from keeps telling me card authentication failed (pissed)

Soon to come: I am working on a Line output Buffer board that will provide front and rear preamp outputs with a full range mono output that will compensate for front/rear balance adjustments to be used for a mono subwoofer output!

The board will mount in the tape slot and will have adjustable trim controls to match levels on all four corners plus sub. It is still in the concept stage but it is very do-able. I am currently researching the variations of stock HU's so that i can be sure one board will work with all units.

This is something that a tech will have to install as there is surface mount soldering required. If these make it to production i will offer the service for a fee.

I will make an announcment about the waiting list and pre orders in the marketplace section in the near future so stay tuned!

that sounds awesome... the sub i was trying to order (diamond audio tdx 10) has been discontinued and the site i bought it from also stopped carrying the d9(new upgrade to the tdx) so now i'm waiting for them to refund my card so i can go hunt elsewhere. I'm looking forward to doing this install... my previous car was a 96 z28 and i completely gutted the car when the system was put in so i didn't have to be careful and meticulous like i plan on doing with this car.

I also ordered a sharkfin antenna and a neo ipod thing, if i can get a digital camera by the time all this arrives i'll try to take some pictures along the way.

thanks for all the help guys... hell of a lot more response here than at ls1tech.com

just thought of something... couldn't i also run a headphone to dual rca's out of my ipod to the amp, and have the LOC on a switch so that is only being used if i want to use the cd player? that way i can turn the equalizer effect off on the ipod, and use the amp to control the amount of bass, but simply switch on the loc if i want to use the subs with the radio/cd player??

This makes sense to me but maybe there's something i'm missing??

i ended up going with a diamond audio d6, a step down from the d9 but whatever it should still thump nicely. for those of you who have a subwoofer(s) and a stock HU, how does it sound?

Pointless for me to ask now that everything is being shipped to me .... but oh well lol

It sounds pretty good. I was happy with using the factory radio for about a year...but it will be a night/day difference if and when you upgrade the head unit.

well i don't really wanna get rid of the head unit... its the bose 6 disc and its got all that s*** integrated into it... plus this car is just holding me off until the 2nd model year of the new camaro

yea i'm a big chevy guy... always have been always will be. I start working for mercedes in february so if money's right i might skip the camaro and go straight for a c6. so sexy (rockon)

who knows how long these orders are going to take... i should have everything i need by next weekend, but i work 7 days a week so i gotta make time to install this stuff =\

where did you guys route your wiring? i was thinking about running it under the center console since the amp will be under the driver's seat. The assembly under the driver's seat can be removed correct? its just the sub and what not?
