mods for a 1.6l

2000 Mazda Protege DX
I'm new to Mazda and I have a 2000 Lx protege with a 1.6l and I'm having a hard time finding mods for it all I really want is an intake and a muffler don't want too much just a little for get up. Any ideas? Thanks
 
Intake and cat back for 1.8 should fit with little or no modification. Not that these cars will ever get up and go without a turbo, having the 1.6 is even worse. I have the 2.0 and have a hard time outrunning my tail lights
 
Thanks but isn't the MAF sensor on the 1.8 different from the 1.6? Or is it the same? I was thinking about building my own from autozone is that a good idea?
 
Little late to this thread but I'd recommend either a Simota or a Cosmo intake designed for the 1.6. If you get one designed for the 1.8/2.0 you need to make some additional changes so that your car doesn't throw a code from the larger diameter piping.
 
They seal right if you use the rubber ones, please tell me you didn't try to use the plastic clamp things...
 
yes I did. But that's all that auto zone in San Antonio sells to fit the curvature of the 1.6
 
Motor harness ecu mounts. You might need the trans but I can't remember if they're the same or not
 
You'll also want to swap the breaks over from rear drums to discs.

Just turbo the 1.6 there pretty bullet proof IIRC.
 
Well the question is what do you want to do if you want to boost then you can always do that but would have to custom make parts for the 1.6 if you do the swap to the 2.0 then you can source a msp turbo set up and boost it. In all honesty id just keep the 1.6 and do the basic bolt ons for some fun and leave it. I thought about doing both of those route but it wasent in the cards for me so i just hevaly modded my car check my build thread for some ideas.

The choice is yours in the end which ever way you choose to go well all like to see some progress. If you really want to do something crazy and have some power then swap in a rotary in your protege and boost that that would be epic IMO. Good luck in which ever route you go. If your still looking for an intake I have a Simota SRI im looking to let go of LMK
 
Depends on how much you want to spend and how well you know people. Could range from 500-3000 depends on if you want the klze or klde. Ecu, tuning, what you do for wiring etc

Hmmm. I don't know a lot of people, so this could be pricey.. Haha. What's the difference between the KLZE and KLDE? I've seen the ZE a lot, but not the DE. Did I see somewhere that the ZE is a V6?
 
If your are wanting to mod your 1.6L Mazda for performance you got the wrong car.

Sell it and buy a used 2000 Camaro Z28 if you want speed.
