Mirror Upgrades

Yeah so I miss my on board computer that's on my M3, when I am driving my Mazda 3. The main function I miss though is the temperature monitor. Yeah its neat to have all the other stuff, but knowing the temp outside is really a great feature. That said and done, i found this mirror on mazdastuff, is it worth it? Is it just as simple as removing your old mirror and sliding on this one? How does it get its temperature reading????

I remember someone says in another thread that it was a simple change out, but I don't remember about the wiring.

As for the price, the price on mazdastuff.com is the best one I've come across. When I ordered my car, I wanted it, but forgot to put it in the order. I asked them what it would cost to put it in afterwards and the dealership told be it would run about $450. Talk about an arm and a leg.

You might want to try searching the threads for the one on the installation of the the mirror.

Although your mirror is a little different, I've had a similar mirror in my car for like 2 years now, and even have a thread on it somewhere on this site. It is so worth it in my opinion. Make sure you get the one with the compass, temp gauge, and the auto-dimming feature. Someone puts their brights on, it doesn't faze me. (Fuckers!) The temp semsor is usually clipped to the frame behind the front bumper, as low as possible. I got it from Mazdastuff/Mazda South down in Austin (same dealership where I boguth my MP3). You won't be dissapointed!

Oh, and here is my thread on the matter: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2618&highlight=Mirror

I bought the compass/temp/autodim mirror from the dealer the day I picked up my 3. It came in about a week later and I installed it on the first decent day after that.

Taking your time, making sure everything is done right, the install should take you no more than an hour and requires only basic hand tools.

Part Number: 0000-8C-B07C
Total cost: $188.80 plus tax.

ExtremeMz3: to answer your question... no, it's not as simple as removing the old one and installing the new one. You have to run the power, ground and temp wires to their proper locations. The instructions are very clear and concise, though. You should have no problems.

For thoes that have added this mirror, do your automatic wipers still work?

Dealership told me I can have 1 or the other. but not both.

US-based cars are not equipped with auto-wipers. Can't help ya. Sorry. (shrug)

That still hold true for cars up here.
