98 Pro DX & ES & Mazda 6s
So my dad calls me and asks if I need to get a new car. Then he told me to let him know and he'll get one for me. I just graduated and the car I have is a hand me down, but it's still been good to me. Not interested in a all out sports car and plus my dad wouldn't get that for me. Looked at the other cars in the same price range and overall the 6 is at the top of my list.

I've had my eye on the Mazda 6 for a long time.
Are there any major problems I should be aware of with the 6?
How do you guys like the 6?

Here's the one I'm planning to get:
GLACIER SILVER METALLIC
GRAY Cloth

MAZDA6 s 5-Door, Sport Model $24,345
Destination Fee $560
220-hp 3L DOHC 24-valve V6-cylinder Standard
Front-Wheel Drive Standard
6-Spd Auto $950
BOSE AUDIO & MOONROOF PKG $1,335
EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT $100
Total MSRP: $27,290*

:wtf:

There are actual people here that are more than willing and qualified to help this kid out...Not cool man...not cool

What year are you going for? Are gonna buy or lease? Do you plan on modding it eventualy? If you plan on getting the 6s with 220 you wanna get between 04 and 05. There were a few things wrong depending on what year you got and or how long the owner had it to get whatever needed to be fixed. From previous experience it's better to get a 1 year used car cause you don't loose value as much when you drive a brand new car off. Other thing is whatever usualy goes wrong in the 1st year the prior owner had to sit in the dealership waiting room and not you. Have you actualy had an opportunity to drive/ride in a stock or modded 6 yet? If you are going for a later V6 then you should be under $20K.

Ummm I wouldn't reccomend this car unless

*he can and or is willing to drive stick(He picked 6spd auto)
*daddy is loaded(speed6 ant a 20K car with a waiting list like it has)

Thanx 4 the info guys.

Trying to get a 05 model. Hopefully they've got most of the bugs out.

Looking to buy.

No racing, no engine mods, and no exterior mods (for at least five or so years). I learned how to drive manual last year but I'd rather get an auto and continue with my plans in the future to swap the 2nd gen engine n tranny from auto to manual.

Had a chance to drive a 6 and I really enjoyed it. It was really comfortable too. I think the interior and exterior styling is very nicely done.

Dad's not exactly loaded and even if he was I wouldn't feel good putting a lot of cash on a mazdaspeed 6.

Now that is more like it...Good response (thumb)

Yeah though I'd go for the newer mazda 6 for the 6-speed transmission. It really helps with acceleration AND allows for better gas mileage. Plus it's more fun to play with on the sport shifter.

Have you considered the hatch or wagon? The hatch is a little sportier and adds the nice touch of easier access to the rear area. The wagon adds tons of cargo room, ideal if you're planning on moving around a bit.

The mazdaspeed 6 will be nice, fun, etc. But it's still the 4 cylinder engine. That said, I believe its hp specs aren't that much higher than the 6s. So why bother then? AWD? That adds a bunch of weight, lower gas mileage, and some more potential problems in the future. Plus like Da6 said, the waiting list goes on and on and on. Dealers know they'll be getting what THEY want for the car. Not a good situation for the buyer.

I really like the Mazda 6. The warranty's great, too. I think either way, whatever you choose to get, you'll be happy. Keep in mind that you cannot change out the head unit unless you are into cutting your way through the interior pieces...

Because of the CAN module system, doing any sort of swapping in these new age computer cars is near impossible.

If you want a manual, get a manual...because it will cost more money to switch later, then to just buy a new car. We've been around the block multiple times, and everytime you get totally hosed. Your talking buying almost completely new electronics which then have to be sync'd with a dealer WDS (forcing you to go through a dealership)...your talking upwards of 4-6k for a tranny swap.

yeah If I had the cash i'd do what crossbow did for his atx to mtx swap ;) Which is a hell of alot cheaper and reliable with warrenty still intact.

But don't go with a 6i ATX...which gets about the same gas mileage as the 6s ATX's. If you want to get good gas mileage, go with the 6i Manual Transmission.

???? 18.9 highway.
Why are you getting that low on the highway? Are you any extremly aggressive driver? Is everyone with a 6s getting this type of gas mileage.

I'm going to the dealer on Aug 27 w/ my pops to pick the car.
I'm going to go ahead and get the MT.
Now the option that's up in the air is a 6s or 6i.

No, Da 6 has a 6i ATX and that is his gas mileage, that's why they were saying go w/ a 6i MTX instead of the ATX. Stretch has a MTX 6i and he kicks butt w/ it locally autoxing in DSP.

Hmmmm
My 98 Pro DX AT car has an EPA city/highway of 25/32 my actual is around 21/31

It just seems odd that your 6i ? gets 18.9 highway when the EPA is 23/28 for an AT. I guess it would make sense if you travel during rush hour though. Then your highway 18.9 is basically like city driving.

What kind of gas do you use?
