Metro Detroit Mazda Owners

I almost bought from them but bought from Sesi instead. No real reason just that Sesi had what I wanted (and Cook's internet sales chic was a little pushy).

I used to work there. But even before working there I purchased two new cars, one Mazda and a VW and had great experiences both times. If you need, I can hook you up with the right people to guarantee good service. Just PM me. (yes)

Thanks

I'm in the market for a Lava Red Mazda 3 hatchback, but waiting and watching the feedbacks from current owners. Hoping to purchase a 2005 model. I've shopped at both Livonia Mazda and Cook Mazda and Cook does seem more professional. Question, How does the 3 feel on the extremely potholed roads such as Telegraph, 94 and 96 does it fly all over the road like any other car? And how did it hold up last winter against snow and icy slick roads? Thanks. Dougiefresh

well, i bought my car there, i love their service, my car is there right now for the clunk, crunch, and AC resistor motor. Talk to Van (Vinnie) Maxwell he isnt pushy, but still is respectful, and still gives you the attention you want. If i had to buy another car from the selection they have to offer, i would definently buy from them. BTW i see your in garden city, I have a cellular store in westland

I put down a deposit on an MSP there in Oct. 2002 ... waited and waited and waited ... they couldn't get one in for me. Found a delaershiip in IL (Community Mazda, they're great) who got me one THE NEXT DAY. That was in Feb. 2003!

Needless to say I'm not thrilled with them. I could drive 10 minutes to Flat Rock and see all the MSP's at the port, yet they couldn't manage to get one for me in 4 months.

Oh yeah, I took my car there for service to get the sub replaced ... took them 3 days because my paperwork "slipped to the bottom of the pile", and that was with calling ahead so they had the parts there waiting when I took it in.

I bought my MSP from them and the sales person was really nice (like most sales people are). The tech manager is really cool in the Mazda section, but some of the techs are cocky, condecending, and seem like they are ******* with you (like most techs do). Once they found out that I know more about cars than your average person, they weren't so bad.

Now, my friend who has had his Spec-V engine replaced twice doesn't feel the same way about the tech dept. Both blown engines were caused by problems that the early Spec-V's had (bad rings and the cat was too close to the exhaust manifold and melted, causing fragments to get sucked back into the engine). He would go through oil like crazy (quart a day) and told them how much he had to put in just to get it to the dealership. The car would also let out a HUGE cloud of black smoke if he got on it at all. They told him that it's normal to burn a little oil (WTF?! QUART A DAY). They never even tried to do an oil consumption test. He dropped it off twice with the same reason, and both times they told him it was fine and that he was putting too much oil in. The last time it was brought in was on a trailer because the engine seized and the oil stick was bone dry. After calling corporate, they finally realized that there WAS a problem, and he got a new engine. The second time was just a total rebuild because of the cat fragments in the cylindars and a melted converter.

When did this occur? I was the Nissan Service advisor at Cook from February 02-April 03. It was normal for the Spec V's to burn some oil per Nissan Tech Center, which btw is on haggerty in Farmington Hills, definitely NOT a quart a day. I replaced 8-10 2.5 motors during my tenure at Cook. This problem occured in some of the Altima's as well as Spec V's, just not as frequently. As you mention there were several documented issues with them. We serviced 150-200 cars for Nissan Tech Center's fleet. The Spec V's in this number were very abused in their fleet and we had to replace several detonated clutchs and blown motors from abuse NOT defects. (lol2) :)

Just FYI, black smoke would be excess fuel. Oil burning would be white smoke. (coolant would be steam, etc)
