Mazdaspeed3!!

that zoom-zoom camaign was & and still is one of the best to date... but that was for all mazdas. someone was wondering why the ms6 wasn't being advertised more....

the more I think about it, since this car hasn't come out yet, maybe there's still something in the works. mazda loves to advertise duringt he baseball playoffs so hopefully we'll see something then. a car like this SHOULD get some advertising dollars because it could be used as a hook. (by far the most exciting car they've offered in years, even more so than the rx-8 IMO simply due to its practicality) not to mention the fact that it's the first AWD car from mazda. but anyway, they could use this to simply attract attention to not only the car but also the brand... and help turn 'mazdaspeed' into a household name.

Right. That's why I compared it to the Budweiser campaigns. There are multiple "models" of Budweiser beer but the name is what is most emphasized in the advertising.

the wrx's and evo's dad!
In a way, yes. They were rally homologation cars, just like the WRX's and Evo's.

there were also AWD Familias (JDM protege)

There were 4WD Proteges in the U.S.
From The Protege FAQ:
Has the Proteg ever been available in North America with four-wheel-drive (4WD)?
The only 4WD Protegs in North America were sold in 1990 and 1991. They were available with the base-level SOHC (B8) engine only, and almost all were sold with automatic transmissions. Almost none were sold outside of Canada and the far northern states of the U.S.

These cars did not sell well, and they suffer from reliability problems. According to Canadian sources, the 4WD system is a light-duty version designed for Asia/Pacific cars with engines even less powerful than the SOHC B8, and various parts tend to break under hard use. Poor sales prompted Mazda to discontinue the 4WD Proteg in 1992, and reliability troubles have forced most of these cars to retire to the junkyard. These cars are best avoided due to the high price and limited availability of replacement 4WD parts, and attempts to modify them are not recommended due to the weak drivetrain.

There was one of these in the parking lot of my old apartment building. It was kind of wierd to see 4WD on the fender!

i would think that the first quattro would be the evo and sti daddy.... wasn't that out before the 323 awd?

dear god talk about thread jackage... but who gives a flyin f' cause we got nothin new to talk about on the ms3 anyways...

Superbowl ads work because everyone and their uncle's dog watches it. while expensive, an advertiser knows they'll have about as captive an audience as one could ever have for a tv commercial. (what other show/event can you say you actually look forward to the commercials?) Unless mazda wants to pony up millions to promote a limited production for a mere 30 seconds, I can't say I blame them. other than the superbowl, television advertising is far too passive and often overlooked & forgotten. If we're talking about the mazdaspeed6 and why it's not selling well, look no further than some of its competitors that are. subaru legacy gt... acura tl... nissan maxima... they might be out there but I can't recall seeing a commercial for either one. (which goes back to the whole passive/overlooked/forgotten thing) Companies want to be able to track their advertising $$$. that's why google works so well. tv & radio are next to impossible to track... the companies that still choose this medium are ok with this. they're going more for branding or creating interest. Budweiser floods the airways with commericals. unless they're superbowl spots, most of them are completely forgettable. they don't care... it's the branding... the logo that's getting embossed into your subconcious that gets you to buy their brand over the others they care about. when the mazda6 first came out it had that cool commercial during the playoffs with the car making a 6 in the desert. that created some interest for people that might not otherwise have known about the car. now that the car's in the public eye, those who are in the market for a 30k awd turbocharged car know about the ms6. these are car enthusiasts remember. they don't need some slick advertising campaign to peak their interest. they ARE the slick advertising campaign!!
SInce I have a bachelors degree in marketing I know exactly what you are saying. I guess what I am trying to get across is awareness. I have spoken to many people about being a Mazda enthusiast and many people don't have a positive reaction. You think of the "Sport Compact Crowd" you think Civic, Evo, WRX, 350z, etc. Not many people think Mazda unless you are refering to the RX-8. I think some of that is starting to change, especially with the Mazda 3. I think what is going wrong with the MS6 is identity. Mazda wants to create a car that is fairly sophisticated and not too flashy, but holds a brand name that is completely performance oriented. They need to re-think their marketing for a 30-45 demographic. Mazdaspeed typically only means some thing to the younger buyers (16-30), but now they are trying to sell to an older crowd that thinks that Mazdaspeed is just for racers (or whatever).
