NO
the "MZR" is an all ford motor and only the mazda versions have a different head and variable valve timing... and only mazda has the DISI turbo version also
the whole engine design is based off of the ZETEC engine that's been in use for a number of years... starting with the ZX2 and the focus... what was done was when ford went to mazda and told them to polish the turd, they went ahead and changed it to use a timing chain (but still with a lot of ford input because had they spent more money on it, it wouldn't have issues of going out of time if the motor was turned backwards), redesigned the heads, etc
the "MZR" is only a marketing name, just like the "DISI"... they are meaningless in the engineering side... there are different versions of the "MZR"... the ones used in the north american mazda3s are the "L" engines.... there's also the smaller 1.6l engines sold overseas and the 1.3 and 1.5 siblings used in other mazda cars... those smaller engines are the "Z" engines and they still have nothing in common with the Z engines used in the mazdas designed in the 90s, and they definately have nothing in common with the "L" engines or the ZETEC engine
don't EVER believe that garbage written on wikipedia about mazdas... half the s*** on there is wrong!
