Mazdaspeed vs. Dodge SRT-4!

yuck...i dont care if the dodge neon srt-4 boasted a 30lb boost with stock 18" volk racing rims, a full carbon fiber body, ran the quarter mile in 9 seconds, its still a freaking dodge...i hate the chrysler corp so bad they gave us a choice to wear our brigade patch or the 5th corps artillery patch as our combat patch - needless to say the 5th corps patch is just like a chrysler symbol so i chose my bde patch...

water sucks!...drink gatorade!

the neon srt4 might be faster but still rental car quality and probably wont last.
A ~20K investment I would go with mazdaspeed.

Same thing with american muscles vs. lil imports.
With the Mustang GT and the Camaro Z28 I will definitely say are pure muscle and fast compared to lil imports, but after 2 or 3 years, ur not gonna have a ride for very long. Ur gonna spend quite a lot just trying to fix it!

Dodge, ford, chevy..................made rental cars to be used as rental cars just to be trashed after 2/3 years. Toyota, Honda, Mitsu, Mazda........made to own, made to last 10 years. For the price, the best bet is to go import.

I don't see your point. I've rented a Mazda and a Toyota in the past...

Anyone want to compare their car to a 1.8t VW?

Sure. Mine is faster, cheaper, has a nicer interior and seats and handles just as well if not better. Oh yes, and for the price mine came with more options in it. :D

I beg to differ about fords being rental car quality. My wife owns a 99 Mustang GT and it's as nice and new as it was the day we bought it aside from the one small cig burn on the visor. The car runs great and actually gets better gas mileage now than it did new. All of the interior pieces are still nice and the only visible flaw would be the lettering on the cd player (mach 460W) which started to rub off. The truth is a car is as good or as bad as you treat it. Her's happens to be owned by a professional mechanic. Rental cars are operated by people who have problems operating their own cars (renters due to wrecks).

I think domestics are starting to catch up with the refinement and quality of imports..but imports still have a slight edge in that department imho..

I agree, my only point was the owner is ultimate determining factor in how well the car holds up. Only in rare situations do well maintained and groomed cars ever just fall slap apart. Well....I guess GM still makes cars so ignore my last comment!

Ahhh, that's what I wanted to hear; some positive comments about a protege. Oh, and don't forget that your car is not a pig like the new heavy arse VW's too.

Long story short: Nissan brought an R34 to a test facility in AZ. According to US law, the car can only stay in the states for XXX amount of time. Well, time was up and the car was crushed. Oh, don't believe the BS on that message board about the driver getting tickets and the AZ govt crushing the car.

PS. notice the stock 18" rims, exhaust, wing, and probably a few other choice items are missing from the car when it went to the JYD. Also, a blue S15 Silvia met the same fate in AZ too.

I have owned a s5 t2 rx7 for a year or so, and I just bought an msp. I have a friend with a 2002 sxt neon and I have seen/raced srt-4's.

When it comes down to it, the msp and the srt4 are still 4 cyl, and they will all get spanked by the t04s powered 2.6l rotary. I don't care about your neons highway dominance, you can continue to feel superior, but a boosted 6 will stomp a boosted 4 on the freeway, or anywhere for that fact. The neon is a hunk of s***. I bought the msp for daily driving, handling, looks, and its fun. I would never buy a srt-4 because if I wanted a fast car I wouldn't start with a four cyl hah!

Different design focus, different design focus.
Think of it this way you are a car company designing a car in the 20,000 price range.
Now the requirements are it be either insanely fast or handle extremely well.
Now in order to do these things you often have to forgo other areas.
Example in the insanely fast design you may have to let go in some interior pieces or suspension work. Yet in the end the car will be what it was designed for in the 20k range. Good job.

Other example you may have to let go in the power department. But in the end you came through and have a car that handles nicely. Good Job.

Actually accomplishing these is not easily, but here we have two companies who took different designs and came out with two good cars in the 20k range.
