Mazdaspeed vs. Dodge SRT-4!

also i just have to put my 2 cents in...i like the styling of the msp and the power of the srt-4...if i had to chose...whut the hell...get both of them...the msp for daily driver and the srt-4 for racing...and of course switch it on and off cause you cant like one car over the other if you get them both
 
and orangezoom you are right on the msp...more limited than an srt-4 but im liking the limited availability of my mp3 right now..just wish the ppl you can trade it into would appreciate that small number of cars made in the north american continent...also im hearing that next year...the srt-4 should have an lsd on it stock..just some rumors i have heard from a friends dad that works for chrysler...aka...big wig person
 
Anyone replaced their HEADGASKETS in their Protege yet? Next question; Has anyone ever heard of someone with a Neon getting their headgaskets/engines replaced? Thought so. Fast or not(not starting to flame) it is a proven fact that those Mopar 2.0/2.4L's motors aren't reliable at all!! It is my opinion, but I would still NEVER buy a Neon!!
 
Ahhahhh....wondered when the 'ol headgasket thing was gonna come into play.

The only Neons that had that problem were the 95-98 models. In the 99+ models they switched gasket materials and haven't had a problem since.

Oh...and the 2.4L engine I have in my SRT-4 is a totally revamped 2.4L that you will not see in any other Mopar vehicle...exept the GT Cruiser.
 
hey qwiksrt-4 do you have the engine code for the new srt-4...like is it a 46g3?...i know its not but just an example so u arent stumped at whut im asking...just curious tho if you know or not
 
The SRT-4 uses the A853 2.4L I-4 with dual overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder. The bore and stroke is 87.5mm x 101.0 mm. The compression ratio is 8.1:1.
 
alright thanx a bunch qwiksrt4 and just so you know..i like the design on the new srt4...it is still a neon ya know but hey...ours is still a protege...just both are beefed up different ways...thats why i said i would want both..swith off and on...and actually one last question...are they only going to be in production for a couple of years? and also are they only going to be in black, silver, yellow and red? just curious...thanx for ur replies tho
 
There will only be two model years: 03 and 04. In 05 they will join with Mitsubishi and the Lancer and the Neon will be built off the Lancer platform.

The '03s come in Yellow, Black, Red and Silver. The '04s are rumored to be in Black, Red, Blue, and Silver.
 
We should just be thankfull we have the choice to buy these two great machines. Mazda did not have to build the Mazdaspeed and Dodge did not have to build the Srt-4. We should all stop the whining and appreciate two finally built street beasts. Sure one might be faster then the other, but when are you seriously going to be going all out flooring through every gear in every day driving. If you are, you are driving like a maniac and we should stay out of your way. There are so many great cars out now-a-days its amazing how many people make fun of and yell at others for what they drive.

I have a pretty good idea who will win that one...I have already seen the magazine shoot outs. So by adding a MSP to my stable, I'll have the two best cars for around $20K in the sport compact market.

The Neon SRT-4 Was the overall contender, over the SVT Focus and MSP. But all they care'd about was the speed of the SRT-4.

Indeed....both nice.

I chose MAZDASPEED because it is a Mazda, overall look (wheels, Protege design, etc...), incredible handling, & Kenwood Sound. I'm not racing; so 170 HP is fine; although I will add a little more. Not interested in the 1/4 mile. Drag racing is of no interest. Road racing is my passion.

I got the MSP instead of the others because it was easier to steal off the lot.
 
As a mechanic I've also seen all of the neons come in with heinous problems. However, I bought my MSP before the SRT was released. I still wouldn't have bought it. Just to immature looking. Also the neon has whats called a "long stroke" block. It's a chrysler 2.0L block double stroked, first to 2.2 then 2.4L. Makes for some amazing torque, imagine what ours would do with an extra 20% more block and DOUBLE the boost. I don't think we'd be seeing dodge on top. But it's nice to see dodge making something worth a piss for a change. Good lord how long has it been since they've done anything halfway good? And no, the Viper doesn't count. Great straight line acceleration, pissy handling, useless interior. .....wait! this is sounding repetitive!
 
yuck...i dont care if the dodge neon srt-4 boasted a 30lb boost with stock 18" volk racing rims, a full carbon fiber body, ran the quarter mile in 9 seconds, its still a freaking dodge...i hate the chrysler corp so bad they gave us a choice to wear our brigade patch or the 5th corps artillery patch as our combat patch - needless to say the 5th corps patch is just like a chrysler symbol so i chose my bde patch...
