Has anyone tried retrofitting a mazdapseed protege kit on a 1.6L engine?

Do the exhaust ports line up?
I know the studs don't, but that could probably be redrilled.

Any input?

any help?

I'm just looking for a simple and cheap setup...
t25... 6-7 pounds
intercooler not necessary

I was under the impression that under 7psi stock fuel system is sufficient.

Are msp and regular DX injectors different? If so, are their clips different, meaning, can I just replace the injectors without changing their clips?

When I said cheap, I meant around $500, which should be enough for a small, used, non-intercooled turbo kit.

I'm fairly new to Mazda’s. I used to play with Honda’s before... had a 210hp soch civic, was in superstreet, but ended up selling it because I was paranoid about car thefts... and rightfully so, because the car got stolen not even a month after I sold it.

Anyhow, I picked up a beat up 3rd gen Protg since they’re not as popular among thieves in chitown and have enjoyed it for the last year or so, but I miss the power and the spunk of my EK.

I figured a small kit could bump my little 1.6L to 150-160hp, which would keep me happy, for now.

the 2.0 FS injectors are ~210cc I believe and I heard of a exhaust mani that was made for the 1.6l

but you absolutely need to run a IC even the stock MSP SMIC unless you want your next mod to be custom block ventilation

but 500 won't cut it for a used t25 + mani + pipes the turbo alone will run 250+ depending on condition

Are you sure about the intercooler?
From all the readings I did, a t25 at 5-6psi does not create enough friction to require an intercooler. It's no doubt beneficial, but not required.

As for the turbo itself, I can easily get one for 50-125.
I just recently sold my CT26 for $100, and local junk yards are filled with DSM's and SAAB's, turbo's selling for around $100.

I didn't consider junkyards...I guess you could pull something out for cheap..just don't know the condition until you drop it in, checking shaft play only gets you so far

as for the intercooler, on these cars its required...granted the 1.6l isn't an FS I would still be surprised if you can get away without one.

what would you do for the ECU/Engine Management? because you couldn't run FI on the stock ECU...

you would probably need to go with AFC's SSAFC to get around because other EMS are either full standalone or are geared for the 2.0FS (Unichip, MP3/MSP Ecu, MPI Tuner)

you would need a new exhaust manifold, piping for the intercooler and a new radiator if you are going with the stock msp setup.

BTW with the stock fuel system on the 1.6L, you will not be able to run more than 4 PSI because the stock injectors are 125cc if im not wrong.

I guess I’ll just lurk on some local forums and see if anyone sells their 1.6-ready kit :-P

Also search in clubprotege.com the setup that a member called thegoldpro (I think he posted here also). He tells basically what you need.

What I don't like about that kit is that the intake would be facing the opposite direction of what it normally faces. Doesn't make sense to me. You can run it without and intercooler but if you start pushing too hard you can mess up your engine.
