MazdaSpeed Protege Kenwood 8" sub

I was thinking of replacing all the internal speakers in time with something like the Kappa series.

To start with I was looking at adding in some Kappa 6x9's and using the factory kenwood amp for that. Then I wanted to find a solo 12 to put in that doesnt' require an excessive size box.

If you have any thoughts to add please do. I have not been in tune with car audio since my high school days.
I highly advise going to some stores and listening to everything you can to pick the speakers. Infinity is the number one choice of someone that reads crutchfield mor ethen they listen to speakers :D.

Solobarics are not as they once where. Kickers solobarics(L5 and L7) now are built to be in very large ported boxes and are anything but an SQ sub. If you liked the older Solos and want a small box then a JL, Image dynamic, or eclipse.

I choose kappa because thats what I had in my old car and loved them. Still have the 6x9's around somewhat. they are in my GF's neon. They still sound good and are about 7 years old now.

I have only seen 2 shops around me. One is a very small place. Where do you recommend around here?

You have 4 tweeters to choose from, Salem, Nashua, Manchester and Portsmouth.
There is a Boomer Mclouds in Nashua and Manchester.
Prosound in salem and Autosound and secutrity in Plastow are owned byt the same clowns (I'm not a fan of these guys)
Sound Service in Manchester mostly just does alarms and remote starters but they have audio.
Car Tunes has two locations, one in Pelham and another in Hudson on the Nashua line.
Kelly stereo is in Laconia.

I take it that was you at Boomers in Nashua around 1:00pm today?

If so, yes you were in the presence of greatness. I was the guy there with the leather jacket.

This issue is discussed in the common problems & fixes thread. Thanks to the contributers in this thread for some new ideas, though.

Yes it was. They are recommending I use a solo 10 by MB Quart, replace the kenwwod speakers with some MB quart also. with JL amps. They can do the install that I want which is good.

I didn't say anyhting because I like letting them think I don't know much about audio.

They're good guys there. Be sure Josh or Ryan does the install though. ONLY Josh or Ryan.

Forget what he said about Quart, what did you think of them?
Did you listen to the JL TR's? They are an outsanding sounding component for the money in my opinion.

Also, when he said the doors where shallow, he either didn't know or thinks 2.75" is shallow. Thats actualy rather deep for a car these days. Most speakers will fit and the deeper ones can simply use up to a 1/2" space plate to give you some more depth. The rear speakers are 4" + deep, sonoworries there.

I think he was right on in recommending a single 10" because of your techno listening. I think you'll like the output of 2 more though. However with the kids stuff, that space may not be available.
Be it JL, MB quart or a handful of other is really up to your spece requirement and sound goals.

Whats your budget on this anyways?

I wated to stay at about 3k for the install and all. I would like to have a custom install that will install into the the space behind the taillights, color matching to the yellow if I can.

If any of the other places can do a custom install like that and do it right I will go check them out too. i am not sure that I want to use MB Quart or not. They sound good and all but I wana check out some other brands. I am prolly just going to have to go to a large place like Tweeter and listed to a bunch of stuff.

I tried to go to Car Tunes today too but I passed it once and then i forgot where it was and didn't see it again. Thats the first time I was down that way.

What I had thought about for an install beyond that was to have 2 10's one on each side in the space by the taillights then mount the amps under the rear deck. But if I do that then there may not be any space for 6x9's.

In every other car I have had, I had 2 10's so going with only one may not be enough.

Tweeter in Nashua can definitly do the same lavel of install as can Salem's Tweeter. I haven't seen much of Cartunes work. I also forgot to mention Leathal Sounds in Hooksette. THey do nice work.

If you do put in rear 6x9's I wouldn't bother Amplifing them. They will be very loud just by there position. I would personaly do only rear door speakers, that way the rear deck is open to allow bass into the car. Which ever way you go, I would devinitly use matching front and rear speakers. Same brand and series if possible.

I take it your trying to keep both the spare tire and the ability to fold down the rear seats?

Doing dual subs with one on each side will probably be too expensive. Just in that they have to build 2 boxes as opposed to a single.

Yes i would like to. I need the room for the kid and all 6 million toys and crap he has to take with him everywhere.

I guess I will visit Tweeter and see what they got tomorrow.

Do any of these places carry the Infinity Kappa Perfect Series? I really wana listen to them to hear the dif between them and the MB Quarts.
