mazdaspeed parts

I'm in the process of ordering the Mazdaspeed intake, exhaust cams & High compresson pistons along with the indigo pulley set and lightened fly wheel for my P5. does anyone know what kind of performance gains I should see from this set up. I want to test the limits of a NA motor before I go turbo or supercharged.

I would not suggest putting in the high compression pistons if your gonna go boosted. I would lower the compression with bulletproof internals, ad go for 2 bar boost :D

But to answer your question, you may get 15-20 whp with those mods, after you add a higher flow exhaust system then the stock one.

Do you know the angle setting of the Mazdaspeed intake and exhaust cam? Where are you getting them from and at what price? Anyone here know if the cams can be self installed by idiot like me?

I'm yet to find out why, but it seems the popular thing to do is install the FS-ZE intake cam and the Mazdaspeed exhaust cam. If someone would answer this, I'd appreciate it :)

So, FS-ZE in: $155
Mazdaspeed in & ex: $189

And I think it's a pretty basic install, but you should get a Protege shop manual to deal with timing them right and what not.

While we're on the subject, would installing these cams cause any sig. difference in gas mileage?

I think the gas mileage will depends on the angle of the cam... that's what I was told but don't remember the reason behind it, I think it has something to do with the valve open timing but I'm not sure.... maybe someone can help?

I would like to find out the intake cam profile on the FS-ZE as well as the Mazdaspeed one...

Where did you get yours from? Croksports?

OOPS! nevermind my question about where you got it from.... my fault not reading your post in detail....

Do a search and all your questions will be answered. :D I havn't noticed any diffrence in gas milage. They havn't been in the car very long though.

Tried that. A lot. think I've read most threads dealing with cams, and am yet to find the answer. Could you tell me, or point me to a thread if it's lengthy?

Well I'll try to do a quick explanation. The engine keeps pulling hard all the way up to the rev-limiter. Extends your powerband quite a bit. Also suppose to add around 10 whp gain peak.

one mod that will significantly improve gas mileage is the unorthodox crank pulley.....i have had it for a few weeks now, and i have gone 300 miles on 5/8's of a tank, and for those that are to lazy to figure it out, it meant that when i was done the needle was half way in between the half and quarter mark.

Oh, no, I know how cams help. I'm just wondering why the FS-ZE intake cam is better than the Mazdaspeed one?
Is it just cheaper? If so, then why go with the MS exhaust one?

No...The FS-ZE is Intake Only. Mazdaspeed is exhaust only. The FS-ZE exhaust cam is almost exactly the same as ours, so putting it in is pointless. :D Does that help?

Gas mileage is affeted, think about it, your opening the valves almost twice as much as before, consuming more fuel. You only notice it driving hard and redlining it though. Mine are for sale by the way...

its the duration that is a little different than stock .
it does help with cylinder filling on N/A but on forced induction you may want to go with a higher lift not duration
