So I know that many people have been disappointed that you lose the clock/trip computer when adding an aftermarket head unit, so I started thinking about what could go there instead. What if we had a frosted Mazdaspeed sticker with a clear background made to fit over the left side of the information panel? It could be a nice subtle way to fill that blank space, and I'm thinking that the frosted letters would illuminate when the red lighting behind it turns on. With a sticker, at least it could always be removed in the future or if you don't like it.

Has anyone tried this before, or does anyone know of a sticker like this that already exists?

I have seen it done with black mazdaspeed lettering before. Looked alright.

the display is only totally useless if you got a cheap ass metra dash kit.... there's expensive japanese made kits out there that lets you keep the display functions

I've seen people do static Mazda, Mazda 3 and Axela labels over the right side of the display on cars that don't have ACC. Looked pretty good.

Any useful links so that I don't have to spend hours looking?
