Mazdaspeed 6 UPDATE + Check pg 5 for detailed PICS!

Got my winters today. Had no choice since it started snowing and freeze raining right after I got to work. Luckily, I had a break at work so that I could hop over to the tire store. They weren't quite sure about the offset initially, but I ended up going with 215/55R17 Dunlop Graspic-2's on steelies. Was afraid that I would have to mortgage my house if I went with 18's. They look alright for winters...LOL...and with the black steelies, I can get an idea of what black rims might look like when I change the rims in the spring. Ended up costing me $1050 CAN, installed and balanced. Decent price I guess although I didn't have the time to shop around. My only complaint is the noise. My TOYO winters on the MSP are pretty quite until you get up to highway speed at which time they start to howl a bit. The Dunlops however sound like you're riding around on beach balls, even at city speeds.

After looking at the car today, I am no longer sure that straight black rims will look right. I saw some Konig rims in the 05 catalogue that had a Chromium Black finish that I think might look better.

there is no rock solid info yet except it is fwd, and it did say what engine but I forgot. the site that had info on it was a mazda site someting like triplezoom.com or something similar. I dont know if it's still there and I dont car to look but you can if you like

Maybe Tri-point Motorsports? It was Mazdas Race Team at the Cleveland Grand Prix.

The MS8 is most likely going to be the last in the bunch. Mazda is saving the best for last. Rumors go all the way from electric turbochargers to superchargers for that thing.

The best rumors circulate about an even lighter car (2700-2800 lbs), with around 300 bhp...

At least your smart enough to put steelies on it. I pity the fool that thinks they can drive this car in snow with the bridgestone on because it's "awd".

Personally, I find all black wheels on black cars...too black. It reminds me of steelies. At least have a polished lip or something, gun metal, or dark chrome if you are going that route.

1050 for 17" winters and rims? If so that isn't bad.

Again, nice car, I'm jealous.

Btw it looks like 16's might fit the MPS 6. Another dealer is stating that the standard 16x7 rims from the 6 fit on the MPS6. We are awaiting further confirmation/fitment photos.

If 16's fit the car...it will be utterly fantastic. Going from 18 to 16's is such a huge performance leap :).

What day did you go?????
I was in Atlanta on Monday. Flew back to Chicago Yesterday.

What did you think of the Hot Lap, Gives you that ruch at 7:30 in the morning.

I think the mazda performs well. I took some video clips of being in the car doing like 120 on the back striaght away. Only got to like 100 on the front coming across the finish line.

Which Team were you in????

The tire dealer thought that he might have to go to 16's because of offset issues with the 17" rims. They were going to test fit the 17" rims first and then try the 16" rims afterwards if the 17" didn't have the right offset. However, they never got to the 16" rims because the 17" rims fit. I guess that I should have asked them to try both sets. My only concerns with the 16" rims was that I didn't want them to be rubbing on the calipers or any other structure.

R

if it clears the caliper, it clears the calpier, end of story. The cost difference from 17's to 16's should be enough to justify trying it. I remember when I got my mp3, it had 17's, I went to 14's for winter to save money and I already had 14" winters from a Civic. I had a b**** of a time getting 14" rims for it around here.

Then with the Speed, I have 15" rims on it because the 14's from the mp3 wouldn't clear the calipers. You can't win that's for sure.

Well, as for me getting the mazdaspeed 6, ain't going to happen. not because I can't afford it, but the new owners of my dealer here aren't impressing me so far. I can't even get a test drive. They keep dancing around it. And I am the one that wanted them ( the old owners at the time) to get in a Mazdaspeed 6 back in April for ME. of course it was delayed, time passed, I get fed up, moved onto renovating the home. Might have still gotten the speed this spring if I knew I liked it, but if they aren't going to make an effort to try to sell the car to me? What's going to happen when I buy it, and I have my first issues with it? I'll take this as a direct hint now and leave. The only salesman left from the takeover is a good guy, but I think someone has his hands tied and he's stuck. I knew this was going to happen.

Without getting into a long story as to why I'm really pissed off right now I'll just sum it up with....****

I drove up to a Honda dealership immediately after I left Mazda today. They are getting a Civic ready for me to take for tomorrow to try. Sir is a few weeks away, but I can try a lower model to get a feel for it, and I'll get the sir to try when it comes on...no questions asked. That is the service I expect, not some ******* new manager that doesn't know me at all just assuming I can't afford a 40k car when I can. Nothing irritates me more.

I had to vent .... sorry.

dude... you're gonna get a Civic over a MS6? just cuz of some crappy dealership? Aren't there any other dealerships you can go to? I'm sure if you make it clear that you're interested in buying it... they'll let you. (they'd be crazy not to)

on a side note... I routinely test drive cars WAY out of my price range by essentially donning the best duds I own and walking into the porsche/mercedes/bmw/ferrarri (lol, yeah right) dealership with the best my s*** dont stink attitude I can muster. I've never been let down yet. While I don't anticipate having to do this once my mazda dealership finally gets one of these bad boys... it certainly couldn't hurt. perception plays a role. a couple years ago my wife and I were in the market for a new car. her old one was a hyundai.... ugh... excel. she drove it all through college and, needless to say, it needed to go. Anyway, we decided to pay cash for something in the mid 20s. we went to the local nissan dealership one day (in her car since we'd be trading it in) wearing some avg fresh out of college type clothes. nothing fancy.... just avg. the douchebag salesman treated us like we were second class citizens and wouldn't even let us test drive an altima! a freakin altima!! "sorry kids, this isn't a museaum. test drives are for people who want to buy" was essentially the message we were given. long story short.... we ended up paying cash for the same exact car at the next closest nissan dealership. in the end... I'm glad that prick thought we were poor. he didn't deserve our business.

anyway newf.... that diatrabe definitely wasn't meant to imply you dress and smell like a bum. (even though, naturally, you do! haha)

I do dress like a bum but that's besides the point :)

There is no other dealer around me. Not unless I want to drive 8 hrs every time I want an oil change and pay for hotel/food/take time off.

I went up after work almost everyday this week. I'm a LAN admin at a university, I can afford the car. I'll admit, it'll be a little tight at first considering the renovations I just did in the house, but that would ease off eventually. I went up dressed as I go to work. I don't believe I need to pretend to be someone I am not when the person I am is the target audience for the ******* speed to begin with. I am 31, bought my 1st home at 26, no kids, no student loans, no loans at all besides mortgage. These "new guys" don't' know me from jack. They've only been there a month. Little do they know I know more "chief's" so to speak at Mazda Canada, and MNAO then any of these assholes ( courtesy of the days of the Clunk and law suits and such, the old members know what I'm talking about). Some of which can easily make their jobs much more difficult. Actually, the dist rep emailed me the weekend saying he's coming in town in a few weeks. He's a good guy, we talk s*** about cars and stuff. That's when this gets interesting. I'm not going to fight to spend 40k on a car. They don't want to sell it....fine.

Here's the story, because I'm still pissed and I need to get over it :)

Before all this starts remember that I had asked them to get in a Mazdaspeed 6 so could try it back in April.

The car came in last Wednesday, I seen it Thursday night by pure luck as I drove by for something else next door. They never called me to tell me it was here. Mistake #1. Friday was a holiday, closed on Sat. So, I called them Monday morning saying I wanted to take a look after work, 4:30. I said I wanted to get the car, pick up the woman in it at 5 and bring it right back. I would have had the car a total of 20 mins -30 mins tops as I had to be somewhere else at 5:30. I get some story how they are not sure what they are going to do with the car yet, if it's staying here, or going into the show room, or if they are shipping it somewhere else...we'll call you back. I get a call 4pm, they claim the car is sold. I got a little pissed at this, what if I wanted the car? I called 9am, and someone comes by at 2pm and gets it? So, I decided to at least go take a look at this beauty in person, and the entire time I'm there I can just feel the attitude from the salesperson. He wants to help, he is a good guy as I dealt with him before the takeover, but I don't think his boss wants him to entertain me for some reason. I told him, if the car does not sell, call me ASAP tomorrow, I'll come up.

So, car is sold right? I drive by the next day...car is still there, same ******* spot. Drive by today....car is still there, so I go in and see my sales guy again....car didn't sell. Imagine that! So I say, I want to take it out, and I get the excuse that it's being washed so we can put it into the showroom. He was uncomfortable with me again, I'm felling what a great excuse! Now, once it's in the showroom, forget it, I ain't getting a test drive...too much work I guess to get the car wash boy who gets paid 6 bucks an hour to do it again. Top it off with the fact that it's about to start snowing a lot here, and I'll never get a drive in it. Fine, nobody else will either with the snow we get. It'll sit there all f'n winter for all I care. Pisses me off, I've sold more cars for Mazda then most salesman for god sakes, I expect better respect.

If I ask to take a car, I expect a yes. I do not ask twice. If someone doesn't want to give me service or take my 40k bucks, I'll take that as a indication of how they will treat me down the road. I may have had a few Mazda's over the years, and Mazda Canada might know this, but these new guys have no idea of my history with Mazda, and so far treat me like any other import car owner looking for a test drive. Even the only salesman left from the old dealership came to work there well after all my issues with Mazda Canada, so he really doesn't know the entire story either. I do not test drive cars I don't want to buy, I simply do not have the time.

So, why Honda? Well, I can save some money getting it, spend it on other things....cough plasma....cough trip somewhere. The Honda manager is the guy I bought my speed from. Yes, he's at Honda after leaving Mazda. I also have had 8 Honda's over the years, good cars. That being said, the Civic is a major step backwards, a bit funny looking and small. But, I'll test drive it, see what I think, go from there. Honda doesn't make anything else I like until you get into Acura...but, there is no acura here. Small town. Otherwise, a TSX is something I would try, it's gorgeous with the A-Spec package. I don't know how much a TL is.

You see I met the manger of the new Mazda the first week they were here. When he seen my car, he immediately started with the " how fast is it" comments, and "do you wanna race my bike" nonsense. I'm not ******* 17! The guy most be pushing 45-50, and he came across as someone thinking of me as some Racer Ricer Boy. And I think that is where the problem started.

ok, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

The MAzdaspeed 6 is a gorgeous car. Anyone that has it...you are lucky.

Dealers can be dicks like that. But if you want the car that badly, don't let them deter you from it. You just have to be a little more direct. Try going in there when there is a crowd, like on a Saturday. It makes it harder for them to turn you away. Plus, it makes them look bad in a way.

If you could afford a 40k car, don't do a Civic. They are nice cars but I would go for something else. But the extra money saved would be nice.

Good luck.

Newf,

If I can play the devils advocate for a minute. The Civic SIR is a regular production car, you should be able to get a test drive at any dealer no questions asked. The MS6 is very limited production. Sounds like your dealer is only getting the one. Its understandable they don't want anyone test driving it. With a rare car like that alot of potential buyers won't buy that one after you've been allowed to test drive it. You've already stated you won't buy that one, you might buy one in the spring. The owner of the dealer already knows there won't be any in the spring and if there was a few left it sounds like this is a low volume dealer who wouldn't be able to get one of the last few anyway. So from there stand point they would be letting you put miles on this car for no reason.

I don't however agree with the bulls*** excuses they gave you for not driving it. They should have been up front with you, if this was their reason. I would also agree that there is a "grey" area in my theory because you are a good repeat customer that might deserve some special treatment. I would go back one last time and talk directly to the manager or owner, whoever is calling the shots. Tell him exactly what your situation is and get some straight answers directly from him instead of some two-bit excuses. Then I would make a decision based on that conversation whether I would continue to business there or not.

I could be wrong here, they might just think you can't afford the car. But you bought a $29,000 car there a couple of years ago, its not that far of a stretch that you would be buying a $40,000 car now. I would be a real stupid assumption to make on there part.

My $.02

We have 4 here in Winnpeg. 1 dealer has 1 in the show room the other has 1 in the showroom and 2 on the lot. Another option is to shop other provinces.

Drove the civic today, left with mixed feelings. Half the reason why I was looking at the civic was to get it, actually buy it rather then lease which is what I usually do, and then hand the keys over to the woman and let it be her car....that way she stops f'n up mine :)

Drove past the Mazda dealer today, the car is inside now. The more I look at it, the more I like it. I do want to see the Mazdaspeed 3 though, but I am 90% sure I do not want a hatch. Hatch's were hot 3-4 years ago, but now there everywhere.

I'm waiting until my Mazda rep comes in, I'll go up and see him anyways, then we'll see what they say about me and the speed 6.

I was the only one with a Mazda mp3, the only one with a Mazdaspeed Protege. Only seems fitting I be the only one with a MAzdaspeed 6 does it not :)

if you are that damn admin about having the car why won't they sell to you? you get on their bad side or something?

Im still waiting for my chance to test drive one, they were supposed to be in last week, but maybe it'll be in next week... It's funny, I have to make it sound like I'm super interested in buying one.... but Im really only interested in driving one around for an hour...

salesmen... ugh....
