Mazdaspeed 3

All I know is the MPS is nowhere on mazda's media site (other then the 2002 concept photos). However the new Mazdaspeed MKII Rx8 is, as is the mazdaspeed miata.

On the tech side of things, the mazdaspeed miata is listed in 05...nothing else. At the dealers side of things, the 05 miata is listed, nothing out of the ordinary on any of the other cars, nor any annoucements on upcoming products (which they did for the mzspeed miata).

Finally...the *** dealers and mzspeed dealers get to test drive the mazdaspeed car's long before their annouced to the public. This hasn't occured yet either.

So either the mzspeed6 and 3 are completely invisible to the entire world, sans some people on 6club and msprotege, or its not coming out anytime soon (earliest being 06 yr).

Honestly, It's a bit early for mazda to produce a Mazdaspeed3/6.
Usually performance spec cars are not made until 2-3 years after the
"origional" car has be released. Many factors are involved. Main one is demand for such a platform. I would expect that mazda will not be making very much, if any kind of profit from such a vehicle, so demand would have to be worth it along with a boost in thier "sporty image". You also have to consider the popularity of the vehicle in question, which they are doing quite well.
Regardless of WHEN a mazdaspeed 3/6 will come out, the question is what are they going to come equiped with?
All I know so far about the Mazdaspeed RX8 is that it's got an appearance package and that's it...... I don't want anything like that, I want a modified 3 w/ factory warantee that is putting down at least 200 to the wheels with a LSD.

Rock,

They have the specs on the MkII Mazdaspeed rx8 (JDM). (Its free to register and login, and they have tons of cool photos of all their cars!!!)

The US spec Mazdaspeed rx8 (according to rx8club) is going to have some sort of supercharger....racing beat and mazda have been working very closely on some sort of electric FI application for it.

I can live with that.:p

whoah is that like the suerchargers that are only fast between 10 Pm and 10:30 Pm!? will there be solar pannnels on the hood in the design of CF?

Actually, the system is an Electrically Assisted Turbocharger. Keep in mind that they real displacement of the 13B engine is only 1.3L. The Renesis engine has to be pretty far up in the RPM band to have enough poop to spool the turbo. This means that turbo lag under norman conditions would fairly bad. So, a small high-speed electric motor was mated to the turbine wheel to help spool up the turbo faster in low-rpm engine operation. This means, the boost acheived during 1000 rpm launches would be similar or better than the boost response from an equivalent supercharger. The turbine wheel is not very heavy, so it does not take a large motor or a significant amount of energy to get the turbine wheel spinning under electric motor power.

Rotarynews.com has the story.

I reference to Da 6's comment about needing solar panels, it would not be a difficult engineering challenge to program the ECU to disable electric turbo assist when the battery voltage gets below a certain point. Also, it would also be simple to feed the electric motor from a large capacitor. This would give the electric motor a large surge current when needed (low rpm takeoff) and would protect the rest of the 12volt system from excessive drain during initial surge.

just bumping this up. Is it safe to say that since the preliminary specs of the MS6 were released that it means the MS3 is gonna have the 2.0T since the MS6 has the 2.3T? Also, since the 6 has about 273 or so hp the 3 should have like 250 or less? Anyone hear any details. Maybe they were explained in this thread or another and I just missed it.

There are no specs for the MS3 released as of yet. I would guess that it'll be a 2007 model at the earliest, seing as how the MS6 is the 2006 model and Mazdaspeed doesn't seem to be into producing two different models at once.

I think the fact that the MS6 will have AWD gives the MS3 a good chance for AWD also. I also think your reasoning for having a 2.0T is fairly solid. But we'll see.

Here's my take. They're going to make the Mazdaspeed3 for competition in FIA rally, where maximum engine displacement is 2.0L. Being 1995cc, the smaller engine is perfect. I think(re: hope) they make a rally car, with a street-going version like the WRX and Evo.

Well they already have the engine from the Mazdaspeed6, but I dun think they want to use the same engine for the two platforms, cause then MS3 will beat the MS6, and I dun think they want that.

so I agree with u

I don't think they'll care about that. With that logic, then why aren't they worried that the MS6 is going to be faster than the RX8? With the size and appearance difference of the 3 and 6, not too many people will be cross-shopping.....

since its a Mazdaspeed vs. a stock Rx-8.. i think it doesnt matter...
The RX-8 A-spec, handles like a dream though... at least it did in Best Motoring race

The MS6 will have a 2.3 Turbo...Seems like all MS Mazdas will keep the Turbo theme...or maybe the MS3 will get a NA high output 2.0? As for power (assuming an MS3 turbo)...my hunch is between 200-220hp...match it up with other powerful sport compacts...

mazda has proved that they can make a 1000hp N/A 2.3 so I guess your logics sound resonable :)
