Mazdaspeed 3

Just because someone wants a turbo doesn't mean they don't give a crap about gas mileage.

I really want a Mazdaspeed 3, but I have to evaluate it first. I'm driving around my Civic and it's my daily commuter. There are moments where I want the acceleration, and then there are those commute times where I'm just cruising down the highway. What I like about VTEC and other variable valve systems is that it's essentially economy mode until you wind your engine up. Turbo, if the system is designed that way, can be the same way.

I discovered that "spirited driving" actually doesn't reduce my MPG that much simply because with commuting (ie freeway/expressway driving) the spirited part is a pretty small portion. I would want the turbo to use it when I want to. If I wanted a performance car, I would buy a performance car (which the MS3 is not).

And MPG isn't only about lowering operating costs, it's also trying to lower your impact on draining resources.

Then burn SUVs/Minivans and buy a hybrid :)

if you keep the MS3 at stock, then you can be economical about it. If you buy an EBC and have a 1psi setting, you can be economical about it... but the part is having the power and abusing it :)

when i'm 40, i'll worry about resources and gas mileage for non-monetary reasons.

I wouldn't worry as much about heat as I would about pressure.
It was designed to hold vacuum, so it may or may not hold pressure as well. (dunno)
There are stock Mass Air Sensor housing holding as much as 12.5 Psi around, I'm still waiting for it to pop and force me to re-design it but so far...two years and 40,000 Km of Abusive driving... Nothing.

I understand that it is possible to want MPG... But it's just that if you buy a car equiped with a turbo and worry about MPG that might make more sense than spending $3000.00+ to install a device that has no other function but to improve acceleration at the cost of fuel economy...

As long as my Boost never goes above 0 Vac, and the Extra Injectors don't come on, My car drives almost as efficiently as a non turboed P5, so yes, it all comes down to driving habits rather than the car's design.

I'm sure you could drive a Hummer very conservativly and get better mileage than someone such as myself with a Firefly. Driving habits... Why Are we off topic...

When did this become a MPG THREAD???

HEY Mazda North America !!!

I will consider a Mazdaspeed3 if it is AWD and Turbo, AND if there are news about these specifics before October...

Ya, I'm not sure they'll announce in two months, but you know they're make it. Everyone was a doubter when the MPS 6 hit the car shows, but now they're making it....

Is that pic supposed to be a Mazda3 concept? It looks suspeciously like an RX-8... But hey, the wing alone will add 50 HP, so I'm all for more power.... (yippy)
not to mention that the front license plate says rx-8...lol (spank)

C'mon... You can't expect me to pay attention to ALL of those pesky little details, can you???? Yeah, I sort of missed the license plate... uh....yeah...

At Mazda Rev-It-Up in Boston there was some hot chick from mazda walking around taking some pictures at the event and she saw the NEPOC lineup in the parking lot out front so she took pictures and video of all of us and interviewed us on camera. She said this tape would be used as part of a compilation of a video possibly for marketing but definitely to be shown to mazda executives. She asked us what we thought of the 3 and the 6 etc and she asked if we had any other thoughts before we fnished and we made a specific point of saying the Mazdaspeed 3 needed to have a turbo, AWD and at least 200 hp, or else it would be a waste of time and not even worth doing. We also suggested they look to the kenstyle kit for styling cues.

So mazda knows this.....whether or not they listen is yet to be seen :)

outstanding job slug!
Does anyone know of any other pseudo-official methods in which we might be able to voice an opinion on what we think the mazdaspeed 3 should be? and do you think Mazda would take any more notice of us since we're a 3-owner community?

I want a Mazda 3 speed for sure once the lease on are current Mazda 3 is finished, so it's in a while. But still, it has to be AWD same engine and turbo, at least 220 horsepower if they are using the 2.3 liter. I'd be satisfied with 200 horsepower if they turbo the 2.0
