I would highly recommend selling it, I've ran both CAI/SRI and there's no notable difference in performance whatsoever. In fact my times have improved and its easier to launch now, throttle response seems better.
Im very anti CAI because I ended up hydro locking a few months back, sucked big time! I luckily got my engine replaced under warranty and been happy ever since running a SRI. Its much easier to maintain and takes just 10min to switch back to stock.

lol what kills me about this post is that there will be 50 panicked sheep running to sell their CAI in order to get an SRI because you somehow hydro-locked your engine. I am sure you have your own tale about how that happened and I probably wouldn't believe it anyways but you are definitely in the minority.
To sell your MS CAI to get an SRI is absolutely retarded. If someone is in the market for the first time, fine choose the SRI. But don't choose it because of the hydro-lock concern. Choose it because it's usually cheaper than a full CAI and yields just about the same results.

Hydro-lock is a reality not a myth, it can and does happen. To say otherwise is just wishful thinking and bad advice. I was very fortunate that I got my motor replaced under warranty but I’m not counting on other being replaced free of charge. 8-10 thousand is a lot of money to put at risk for a part that hasn’t been proven to perform any better than a part that carries essentially no risk and yields roughly the same gains.

Because it takes a LOT to hydro-lock your car. Not misting water from the rain falling over your bumper, not spraying heavy thunder storms. You'd seriously have to DIP your entire front bumper into a heavy ass puddle.
Otherwise, hydro-lock is a damn mythical unicorn, and warm-air-intakes fail all.

Not with the MS3 cuz my DashHawk shows other wise. Once the car is moving Intake Air Temp (IAT) gets hotter than Ambient Air Temp (AAT) by as low to 2 to 10 Fahrenheit. Haa lol Anyone with a DH can confirm this as well.
I'll reiterate it.
It takes A LOT to hydrolock a car. On the MS3, the filter has to be submerged in almost 2 ft of water for at least 3-5 seconds. Just be sure to keep the fender liner/splash shields in tact.

I can confirm with my DH that my CAI is either exactly what AAT is, or below.
Nothing wrong with SRI's, but the concept is sorta redundant. Hot engine bay, hot intake, sucking in hot air.. I wish I could find it (I posted it a long time ago), but there's a supercharger company that particularly will void the supercharger warranty if you use an SRI.

I've been driving with a MSCAI for more than a year now.
My driving has been year-round and in all sorts of weather, including torrential downpours that produced standing water on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I had no issues running my intake in the cold of winter here in PA or while chasing a Murcielago across the Everglades at 145mph in 101 degree heat.
Now, I'm not stupid enough to drive into a 3 foot deep puddle and floor the accelerator, but I can tell you that I have driven my car completely normally without fear of hydrolock and I have enjoyed every mile.
I'm not trying to debate one way or the other since I don't run a Dash Hawk or any other sort of monitoring equipment to measure IAT, but fear of hydrolock should not be the reason to choose an SRI unless you plan to cross streams with your MS3; In which case, you should get a Jeep with a snorkel.

Not only that, but the engine would have to remain running long enough to suck the water through the intake piping, turbocharger, intercooler, and finally the combustion chamber(s).
Here's some updated information in case anyone wants to know:
If you have have a 2008.5 or 2009 MS3 in California, you must have CARB EO# D6075 or D6076. Mazda has also released a new part number for the MSCAI - GRMS-8M-L29A. This kit comes with the most recent EO# D6076. I'm not aware of anything else changing.

i actually think that's still the old part number, just cuz it sounds so familiar. the NA mazda 3's aftermarket CAI is very similar to that, except i think it's a 28 instead of 29A.
either way mine was packaged in such a way that it looked like it had been recalled back to the factory, openned, air straightener and directions thrown in, then taped back up and shipped.

Newflash! When the car is moving forward air cools the Hot engine bay. Cool concept!

Actually it happens a lot easier than you think but you can keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better about your purchase and everything. I know I would lol! But instead I just got a Cobb SRI and enjoy roughly the same power gains with less maintenace! It's a win win!! (first)
