Mazdaspeed 3 CAI ?

hello everybody. 2007 mazdaspeed 3 black GT with 15k miles in the driveway.....:) purchased from the original owner.

going to purchase the mazdaspeed CAI from cardinale way mazda in mesa. i live in prescott, az. how long should the install be? about 1 hour?

thanks, anybody have some updated info on these CAI's?????

IIRC, the one you get should be the Gen 3 version, which is the most current one.

i have emailed that cardinale way mazda for a price on the CAI 2 times now with no response. i hope they give me a response, i would love to get one for that price!!!!!

thanks for all the info in this thread!

they want 165.00 to install the CAI. it can't be that hard to install, correct? do you all think i can do it?

remember, i am a computer/tv sales guy at costco, so i usually pay for car stuff.....:)

thanks for the info. anybody have any videos, pictures of the CAI install?????

Hey Tool,

I just bought one from Card Way in Mesa a couple months ago and installed it myself. I am pretty mechanically inclined and it took be a total of around 3.5 hrs. It is not difficult but it takes some time to fully read and understand the instructions and photos.

You should be able to do it yourself. See if you can get someone that can give you a hand and it should go smooth for you. I did it by myself and would of been nice to have someone hand me tools at the very least.

Good luck man...you are going to really enjoy it after the install. I drove mine for about 50 miles to let the ECU re adjust before stomping on it. Definitely throws me back in the seat a bit more!

I did not wait for the resumption of the Mazdaspeed CAI so I bought the AEM after reading that AEM manufactures the Mazdaspeed CAI. The AEM CAI uses a much larger dry filter and requires removing the shielding just in front of the vents in the driver side wheel well. The filter is also directly exposed to incoming air (and water) through the lower grill.

After driving in a heavy rain, I reached down and felt the filter. It was soaked. So I pulled the system off. Later, I bought some sheet aluminum from home depot, pulled off the front bumper and fabricated shielding to prevent spray from the wheel well vents and also from the grill area. Now after driving in a driving rain storm, the filter stays dry. Maybe $10 in parts and nothing permanent. Worthwhile project for those nervous like me. Sorry, once I start a project, my a.d.h.d. keeps me from stopping to take pictures.

hey joelgas, phoenix????? i am in prescott. LOTS OF SNOW. thanks for the advise, i think i will just order it and attempt an install.....:)

Yep...Im in Phoenix Tool. That was a great storm huh? We have a cabin up in Groom Creek area in Prescott. I imagine there is a lot of snow up there!

excellent. i am going to start saving for this part now. should have it in two weeks. anybody want to give install tips? was it hard. was it worth it? pictures maybe?

plenty of pics floating around, but the kit comes with a detailed installation procedure

only real important things to remember is to not tighten until everything is mounted and adjusted (becauase there are multiple connection points to this intake unlike a single pipe unit or sri)

another good thing to remember is when you are installing your clamps, position them in a way that is most easiest to tighten/loosen with a tool. for instance, since im right handed i make the faces of the fasteners for the clamps face to the right.

Hey Tool,

How much did they quote you for the price? I'm in Phoenix and have been looking to do this mod for a while. Just wondering about warranty issues and where I can get it cheapest.

Thanks!

Today I had the new generation Mazda CAI installed in my 08.5 MS3. Paid $330 plus $75 labor. It took the mechanic about 45 minutes to install. Next will be the Cobb AccessPort. Waiting for it to warm up in Colorado.

165 in labor. i think i can do this for free. i am a computer/tv guy. but 165 sounds like they will laugh at me when i leave.

:)

Injen CAI

Hello Guys,

I do apologize if this topics has been discussed before but I'm new to forums.

I did installed a Injen CAI in my MS3 and all of the sudden the CEL turned on. I scanned the ECU and the code was "running too rich in idle" any ideas about how to clear this code for good?

Also I'm planning to get the Cobb AccessPORT ECU Programmer, do you think that reflashing the ECU will eliminate this code?

Thanks in advance and once again, my apologies if this topic has been discussed before.

The check engine light issue was one of the problems that caused Mazda to pull their CAI. Not sure exactly what they changed when they released the current version.

they added a air straighter to the CAI that fixed the turbulence in the intake system when it passes by the MAF

They will cuz thats a 2 hour rate for a <1 hour job and only reading and hand motion skills required

funny. i build/sell computers for a living but installing a CAI is something i want to pay somebody to do.....:)

thanks for the above info. when i can purchase this i will attempt the install. i did years ago install a CAI on a 97jeep, it sounded AWESOME!!!!!

Hey Tool, I just bought an 08 speed 3 from cardinale way...that dealership seems super shady. I have had a lot of great experience with earnhardt mazda in Tempe, you should check with them if you haven't bought the CAI yet. Luke Johnson is my service advisor

Thats sounds too hard! In the rainy season I use some water repellant spray over one of my girlfriends pantyhose knee high socks and stretch it over my air filter. Works great.
