Mazdaspeed 3 CAI ?

CARB EO numbers off main pipe:
D-607-4
GRMS-8M-L29

Mine came with the air straightener but no instructions for installing it. After installing it incorrectly I found the instructions on this forum (where would I be without you guys!). All in all it took about 3-4 hours for the whole shebang (this was my first intake install ever)

Observations: There IS definitely a big difference in how the car feels. Instead of waiting until 4-4.5k RPM to get full torque/power, it's all available at 3k RPM. That in incredible! The feel of the car exactly matches the dyno graphs we've all seen before. Also, the "whooshing" sound is great. It reminds me of the video game sonic the hedgehog and the sound the character used to make. I find myself holding on even tighter to the wheel when I floor it in 2nd and 3rd gear. This car is now a monster.

Note: I've had a couple backfires and hesitations since installation- i've reset the ECU and am hoping that these go away as it re-learns everything.

when i got mine the box looked like it was re-taped (probably was). after opening the box right on top was the straightener and a piece of paper that had a positioning guide on it (told about the reference mark on the straightener and where to place it in the intake before the maf)

How much was this through nucar?
They are my local dealer for parts/service (not sales, I was never treated so bad by a salesman as I was there)

I haven't had any driveability issues since I installed mine. My only issue was that the threaded rubber mount was turning into a flimsy tar-like mass. I ordered a replacement as well as a few spares from Summit Racing for less than $15.00

got mine from there, $399. and i had them open the box in front of me so i could check and make sure everything was there (mainly the air straightener)

i installed it myself. AND it came with instructions, too.

Thanks for the #'s.

And to be scientific about it, you've just added 24 WHP. :) The hesitation is normal and will go away with some miles. I get a mild "pop" between FT shifts as well.

I'm interested in this intake - I currently have approx. 23K miles on my car.

Few questions:

a) If I buy this part online and have it installed myself, I get only the 12month/12K warranty for the part, correct? What if something happens to the engine during the remaining life of the powertrain warranty?
b) If I get this part purchased online (since cheaper) and then installed at the dealer, do I get a warranty for the part and engine for the remaining powertrain warranty (i.e. 60K miles) or full warranty (i.e. 36K)
c) Same as above, with part purchased at dealer.

Where can I get this part purchased for the lowest price?

for the people that ran this as a sri, did you have to reposition the flow straightener parallel to the maf due the removing the bend in the tubing? i'm pretty sure that the reason why the straightener i supposed to be installed with a 45 degree angle to the maf is because it sits right after a bend in the tubing.

Green warranty parts such as the intake can be installed by anyone. Your only requirement is that you buy from a reputable seller. You'll have less of a headache buying from a dealer (such as the one quoted above) who can generate a genuine Mazda branded invoice.

The intake filter, splash shield, couplers, pipes, and fasteners are covered for 1 yr/12K. It does not affect the existing 36/60K warranty unless there is evidence of improper installation/maintenance. If you wish, you can contact Mazda HQ and confirm for yourself:

I have been running it for a year as a SRI and originally I had it parallel with the MAF but when they came out with the instructions for the MSCAI that included the piece in the box, I switched it to 45 degrees. I didn't feel a difference at all and the fuel trims didn't change, which are all safe at -5 at idle and only 2.3 at WOT.

$305 is still expensive but not extreme but i wont spend another $100+ for dealership to install this easy installing.

is that the only way to keep my warranty? if true, that really sux.

I installed my MSCAI and my dealer(Kings Mazda, Cincinnati) was fine with it.

no it is not true. I am sure if you go back through all 18 pages of this thread you will see the reasoning
