Mazdaspeed 3 CAI ?

As far as being loud, doubt that it'll be "loud". It does however waken up the car and the sound of the BPV is going to be noticeable due to the intake. However, I'm sure someone is going to say get a short ram intake and call it the day, no real issues with hydrolocking and it'll be easily removeable for dealer visit.

I am considering getting an old one and running it short ram for warranty reasons. Even in CAI used would save you a lot of money, just buy an aem air straightener.

As for sound, the other forum has a huge discussion going on the sound differences. Mainly people are saying it has a tinny sound to it, more vacuum cleaner, no turbo whine, and the sound comes from the wheel well instead of under the hood. I have only run short ram on the speed3 so I can't be of any help there. But with the mazda intake, you can remove the bottom half and run SRI or CAI, so if you don't like it one way, change it up!

Cheers!

How much are we talking installed new at the stealer? Like 400$ ?

Having an engine failure after saving ~$150 for an aftermarket one will make that $400 for a dealer installed Mazda MS CAI seem like a bargain...

Have you spoken to your dealership about modding the car already?
You know, just to see if they're ok with it. If they are then try and be friends with the service advisor and maybe even the speed tech and in return you'll have a great bond with your dealership when sh*t happens to your car.

As long as you have Mazdaspeed performance parts with the Blue or Green Warranty installed by the dealer you're covered in the event of a failure allegedly caused by the MS performance part

I already know that, but do you plan on modding the car further or just with MS parts?

I will likely use MS parts as I want to avoid warranty hassles as much as I can. And, I find no tangible evidence that after market performance parts are any better anyway...so why take the risk just to save a few dollars?

Aaaaaaaaaah I hear yah. Well it's always good to have a decent bond with your dealership incase anything happens, good luck modding.

Even tho they supposely re introducted them well I would say that's not gonna hold water, cuz for 400+ dollars on just an intake when you can get an AEM who made the initial one for them for less and now has the air straightner, well you decide.

I know this much all the folks with the CAI now are either running a COBB sri, or the CPE Sri, just for the fact that is easy to work on instead of having to take the wheel off everytime and the fender well skirt just to get to the filter for cleaning.

I was at the dealership this past week to have a COBB SRI installed and while there I picked up the new MAZDASPEED Performance Accessories booklet. It has a print date of 10/08. In the Mazdaspeed3 section the CAI is listed as part number: GRMS-8M-L29. It does state though (Late Availability), but at the local dealership they did have one hanging on the wall and that is what caught my eye to find this catalog.

The description reads: Take in a fresh breath of zoom-zoom with a MAZDASPEED Cold Air Intake! Made from high quality aluminum. Tubes are mandrel bent, polished to a brilliant shine and clear coat for a lasting finish. The intake utilizes the latest in dry filter technology for improved engine performance, while providing outstanding air filtration.

It is marked with MAZDASPEED Green Performance - MAZDASPEED Green Performance Accessories must be specifically approved by Mazda for thier particular application. These parts are warranted for the first 12 months / 12,000 miles from the date of purchase, excluding labor.

You had a cobb sri installed at your dealership? Wow, I wish my dealer was that chill.

While the 12/12 warranty is nice, the more important advantage is that if you blow your engine for the dealer will not claim that it blew due to the CAI...

Most dealers will install whatever you want made by whatever manufacturer on your car...that doesn't mean they will not later attempt to avoid warranty coverage by claiming that what they installed caused the problem.

buy my injen cai:) 160 shipped. they cat void ur warranty for a cai.

You are correct that Mazda cannot void the entire warranty for the mere installation of a CAI per the Magnuson-Moss Act. However, if your engine blows or you get a burned valve or the turbo blows, ect...it can claim the failure was due to the CAI and void coverage for that issue. If saving a couple hundred bucks on an aftermarket CAI is worth that risk to you, good luck. If Mazda makes an equivalent performance part for your car, why not buy it rather than an after market part?
