Mazda5 new wheels

I got some new wheels and tires in 2008, after only two years, because the dealer said all mine were shot and it would be $800 per wheel/tire to replace them. I think I paid about $800 for the whole set at Wheel Max. I happened to be in Miami at the time, so I picked them up from the warehouse, and I took them to Pep Boys, or something, to have them put on (I could have done it myself, but it seemed like work!). I went with 215 tires, instead of 205, and they rubbed the rear wheel arches on bumpy roads, but I have since bent back the metal and they don't rub any more.

I'm real happy with them, but they get rusty and pitted over the winter if you don't take care of them. :-(

Don't know why the image doesn't appear... I followed the instructions. :-( again! You can click on the link below.

In the original post there is a pic of a Red 5 running RX-7 rims (16x8-50mm offset) with 205-55-16. Does anyone know if I can just throw these on as is, or is there a special setup? I know I have to switch the TPMS.

Thinking about doing this on our 5. Just put a brand new set of Kumho Ecsta ASX and up-sized them to try and get a smoother ride, but the wife still complains they are still not smooth enough...she is the primary driver of our 5.
Did you ever get a response on this? I was looking to do the same thing for the same reasons. I also am considering a set of alloy rims from a 97 Chrysler LHS as my winter rims. The bolt patterns match up, but the center bore is a little bit bigger, so i will probably need some hubcentirc rings

Slight rub in the rear fenders when hit a dip in the road or hit a speed bump.
Options are firmer springs or roll in fenders.. Recommendations?

I think I posted mine already... (Don't remember, getting old) but here are some pics. 225/35 R19

Anyone else got 19"'s or 20" rims, I wanted to go 20" but that would be SUPER EXPENSIVE and start messing with the speedometer.

I got the adjustable camber link but no need to use it since I didn't change the rear springs.
When loaded with 6 people and baggage, it is lower by1/2 inch but still no rubbing and I'm happy.

I just got a 2008 Mazda5. I have a brand new set of rims that are 17x7 with +40 offset. The tires are 215/40/17's. Do you think they will be ok?

I bought them for my Protege5 and before I could mount them, the car was written off :(

Thanks!

that tire size might be a smidge on the small side, but they should fit fine.

stock rims are 17x6.5 +52 with 205/50-17 tires.. 215/40 is pretty low profile. Others on this forum have used 215/50 on the stock rims, and others have gon to 225/45 or 225/40 on stock rims.
If funds are unlimited, go wild and spring for new rubber.

With 7 inch rims, you could comfortably go to wider tires as well. If they get too wide, use spacers between the wheels and the hubs to ensure that the tires don't rub on the suspension.

If you are like most of us, money is hard to come by, so consider selling the rims and tires then buying what you want that fits the best.
There are tire size calculators on the forum that will give you a good comparison between factory sizes and mild to wild upgrades.

Whatever you choose, take photos and post them on the forum

http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp is a good site.

I think the +40 offset will cause your tire /rim to be slightly over the fender line, it wont be flush. You could look at the fitment guide at the beginning of this thread and see tire rim combos that work. Look at other members with +40 offset and how it will look like.

215/40/17.... you outer diameter will be smaller that stock, your speedometer reading might suffer, you are basically running 5.3% slower
