You purchased a brand new Sport for less than 14k OTD? They are basically giving them away now! That's what I paid for my used '08 last year.

They 'gave me' $2500 in trade for my Saab 9-5. Looking at auction prices, that's well over the average of $990 I was seeing for similar mileage 2001 9-5 Wagons

I paid NOTHING out of pocket for the car... no taxes, no title, no registration. No Deposit... just trade in of my Saab and sign the finance paperwork. Kinda like the 'sign then drive' thing VW is doing

I believe it was two-fold:
1) new 2012s are coming next week or the week after
2) 2010 year end close outs ended last night so they probably had to meet their year-end quota and it was better to eat the cost then take the floor depreciation going into 2011.

I used to work for a dealership and I know those two things lead to good prices paid.

I think I got a pretty good deal on this one. Did the whole internet pricing, email/phone call haggling deal, so we walked in, test drove it and bought it all in about an hour and a half. Previously an Enterprise rental, but it's in great shape. Only down side: only came with one keyless fob.

ryu888, nice. How are you liking your new 5 so far? Non-luxury package I assume? Since with lux package would've been at least $31k taxes in.

DKaz, still waiting for it to arrive; dealer said its in sea :)
No luxury package; not worth it IMO. Will post impressions and pics when it arrives.

No trade, cash deal. Overall in great condition, some 'road rash' on front bumper from rocks.

Ford/VW dealer had it listed online as a Sport, ended up being Grand Touring. They knew, but didn't seem to care. Thought it was a 'decent' price for a sport, but felt it was a good price for the GT.

Thinking of trading up for a 2012. My car has 137,000km on it and needs new suspension parts, fender professionally repainted (I crashed into a column, had the bodywork done but painted myself to save money), wheels are curbed, clutch may need changing in the next year.... the dealer is offering me $7,000 to trade it in. I still owe $13,000 on it. Right now I'm paying $425/mo with 35 months, left. A 2012 would be $567/mo for 60 months or $476/mo for 72 months. I would save about $600 for new suspension, $400 for professional paint, $800 for clutch (I don't know how to do it myself), although I would have to bring the car to the dealer for oil changes for warranty. (I prefer dealer, hate quick lubes)

On one hand I'm getting a smoking deal on it, on the other hand I'm going to be owing $34,000 instead of $13,000, mind you at 3x less than interest rate. The car brand new with everything in would be $28,054.

We are going to be driving waaay less from here on out as we moved back to the city from the suburbs. 500km in the past two weeks, we were averaging 600km a week before the move. It could take us eight years to accumulate 137,000km from here on out.

Would trading it in be a deal of the decade or financial indiligence?

Cars don't rust in Vancouver like they do on the Atlantic coast. It's odd because we're both coastal cities but Vancouver cars are one of the best kept. My 18 year old Corolla that I sold had no rust whatsoever.

Paying more than $35000 USD for a Mazda5 are not something imaginable in US. I do not know how much it cost in Canada but I paid $15500 for my wife's brand new 2010 MT last October. Never own a brand new vehicle before. Last year (and getting worse now) crazy high used car price actually make it cheaper to buy new car last year since the loan rate are usually a lot lower.

Mazda 5 GS is $28k taxes in. $31.2k for GT. + $1.3k for automatic transmission.

Think about it, they're offering me $7k for my 2007 with 85,000 miles that has a rough rattle can painted fender and needs shocks. Cars are not cheap in Canada. :)

Car prices must be subsidizing the health care or something in Canada.

hmmm, I think your dealer is boosting. the MSRP (taxes in) for a GT is barely 29k and you won't pay that if you hagle just a little bit. I paid a little over 26k taxes in when I bought my 2006 brand new. you can do better than that price.

hang on...after 4 years of payments you still owe $13,000 what kind of interest rate are you on now? If you end up owing more than the car is worth, you're making a huge financial error in judgement! get your existing loan reorganized first! you've already paid 20k in payments and still owe half the original value? that's the first thing to fix. back in 2007 the interest rates on car loans were almost free, you should have the car basically paid off by now.
