Can someone tell me if this is a good deal? Location = central Florida

2008 Sport Auto, White Mica Pearl. Options = PEP, wheel locks, rear bumper step plate + soft cargo cover - $19,000 + TTL. Sticker = $20,435

I would be comfortable with this if it was a 2009...but not sure about it since its a 2008...(0.4 miles)...

On a 2008 Sport you can probably do better. It is almost Oct. so they should have incentive to clear out all the 08s.

Not sure how it sells in Florida, but I've seen 2008 Touring models advertised for under $19K in California.

Yeah, I decided to pass on that one. Its for my dad. Anyway, I found him a 2009 Sport, Auto, White Mica Pearl, wheel locks, + rear step plate for $17,995 + TTL. Sticker was $20,155 or something like that... Will probably go get it in the morning...

Slow sales lower prices?

With all the news on the Ford groups sales droping more than any other manufacture in the US. I was wondering if anyone has seen the OTD price on Mazda5 dropping?

I read this quote in a news article:

"Ford’s credit arm recently decided to cease providing vehicle loans to Mazda, its Japanese affiliate, so it could concentrate on financing sales of Ford’s domestic brands."

If we are talking about the whole Mazda fleet you may be right, but the Mazda5 continues to sell well so I dunno.

Anyway, I think it will depend how the particular dealer approaches this issue: I want to sell ANY car on the lot or only the models that are slow sellers will get more incentives. Now, If I heard the news right, I'm leaning towards the first approach.

The article:

IRVINE, Calif., Oct 01, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported September 2008 sales of 16,169 vehicles, down 35.6 percent over last September. Year-to-date, Mazda has sold 215,408 vehicles, down 5.7 percent.

The all-new 2009 MAZDA6, which arrived at dealerships across the country in September, is off to a great start and exceeded sales objectives for the month. The new MAZDA6 features a larger body than the outgoing car, as well as more powerful -- and more fuel efficient -- engine choices.

The right-for-the-market MAZDA5 multi-activity vehicle posted a 26.8 percent increase versus last September, with 1,080 sales. Year-to-date the MAZDA5 is up a remarkable 42.0 percent.

Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) celebrated its best-ever September with sales of 1,780 vehicles, up 29 percent versus last year. On a year-to-date basis, MMdM reported 13,305 total sales, accounting for a 33 percent increase versus last year. Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) reported September sales of 6,762 units, down a slight 4.2 percent.

While September's numbers were better than last year's September numbers, it is the lowest increase this year.

Mazda5 price paid and related questions thread

Hey guys..long time lurker here..I actually own a 2003 Mazda P5
and was a member, but it's been a while since I have posted (dunno)
Anywho..I have been researching and quietly lusting for a Mazda5 since
it's inception, and finally found a 2008 Sport with 16,000 miles for...wait for
it...$13,495!! One catch though, it was a rental/lease car out of Dallas, Tx.
Of course it still has it's manuf. warranty and all, but I'm still kinda iffy on pulling the trigger due to it being a rental/lease vehicle. But the price!!?? Dirt
cheap!!
I'm planning to drive up to San Antonio this weekend to finalize the deal..I
live H-town(Houston)TX by the way..
Come on guys...give me some feedback...what do ya think??(yes) (headshake (dunno)

My honest opinion is that it is a great deal, if the MZ5 is clean and well taken care of. I say inspected good and get a full Carfax report. Pro, is that most rental companies keep up on the maintenance with OEM stuff. Con, is that people drive them hard, hence the saying "drive it like a rental". I personally would rarther pay a little more for a personal owned one then a fleet/rental owned one. Remember that the break in period is very crucial and if renters were driving it hard since the begining with out caring about the breaking period, it is most likely that the life of the powertrain was decreased due to the harsh punishment from random people. Just my $0.02
