Mazda3 top speed

Last time I checked, a M3's top speed is electronically limited at around 155mph!

Oh you don't mean a BMW M3, you mean a MAZDA3

;)

M3 != Mazda3

thats the only reason i clicked in...cuz i was curious what the bmws top speed was....(doh)

This is for the Mazda3.
A guy tell me that is just a chip in the computer, and you can remove this chip
and no speed limit(except the car limit).

Thats probably the same guy who sells the +20 hp "performance chip" on ebay. Look up "Can Bus" on google, and you'll see its just a "wee tiny bit" more involved then that.

There is a solution for the Mazda 6 that removes the governer...but it costs about 700 USD and is sold by unichip. So far nobody has done it...cause quite frankly, nobody but street racers cares, and the street racers aren't willing to spend 700 dollars to go 10-15 mph faster.

You won't hit 120 mph on the strip, nor will you hit on the track (unless its got a mile+ straight).

Here in Canada all Mazda 3's are governor limied at 188 km/h, put already at 180 the car is barely able to pull itseld anymore in stock configuration.

There's a guy in Turkey who says his car doesn't have a speed limiter.

I wonder if the Euro ECU is a straight swap.

I have a buddy at Ford who'd doing performance work on the Focus. I'll see what he can come up with.

*edit* Oh wait... they don't have the 2.3L in Europe. Damn.

Its not a straight swap anyway....way way way too many differences between a US and Overseas spec 6 and 3.

Everything from engine compression, to timing, to fuel maps, to...you get the point.

It would be like swapping a K8T800 Via motherboard chip with a Nvidia Nforce3 Ultra chipset...sure they both work with Socket 939...but that doesn't mean you can swap them around.

They don't have the same engine, so it's a moot point.

What I will do is talk to my buddy and see if he can burn me a new chip without the governor. He already told me they have a 3 in their shop that they're tearing apart.
I know a guy that had one burned for his '95 Mustang when I was working at Roush, so I just have to figureout the right set of contacts. (flash)

Oh... and you lost me on your comparision. Sorry. I'm much more a gearhead than a computer geek. :D

If you're going faster than 85-95 on public roads, I wish you luck when your car becomes airborn.

Seriously, the top speed is governed for a reason: to keep people like you from exceeding the design limits of the car because they think they know what they're doing.

Remember...our computer is COMPLETELY different from a mustang, or any other OBD-II car. CAN bus...digital vs analog...nothing to burn.

Irrespective of the CAN BUS, the top speed is still a function of the engine control computer.

I'm talking about having FoMoCo itself make me a new engine control computer, not having some backyard hack modify the one that's already in it.

Its already available...it just costs 1400 USD before tuning.

Unichip also tried one for the 6 (that was 700 USD) but nobody would pay it. Cheapest tuning your going to see is around 500 USD....just so you can go 10-15 mph faster.

We're not communicating here, for some reason.

I am talking about having FORD MOTOR COMPANY build, tune and burn a new computer for my car.

No aftermarket suppliers.

No money changing hands.

No experimenting.

No muss, no fuss. Direct plug 'n play.

Capiche?

that sucks. limited to 118mph i feel for you guys.

118 is kinda low for a top speed. HOWEVER if you are consistenly hitting the govenor you have other issues besides having a low top speed. seriously, if you are driving at 118 consistently, your gonna die. (nuts)

I couldn't get to 118...the car dies at like 110 and just excessivly revvs past 4k with no vvt pull whatsoever. If the limiter is puled I hope you have done every tire and suspention mod to man cause the car "Feels" safe at those speeds but once a turn comes up it will become squirly and understeer will own. At 40 the car plows...at 133 your car won't respond at all if you jerk the wheel left to avoid the slow moving vehicle in front of you on that bind down hill turn. TRy locking up the brakes at 130 and you will blow tires....spining out at whatever speed you car slowed sown to before you blewout. Unless you are on a track running turbo/nitrous combo with nothing but a drivers seat, steering wheel and engine(inc misc options required to start and stop car) you won't see too far past the newly found limiter. Only place I could see you use it would be those loong deserted desert highways.
