Mazda3 - 2006 or 2007 ?

I met with a Mazda dealer a few weeks ago to buy a silver Mazda3 Grand Touring sedan with the moonroof/Bose stereo. I specifically wanted the car without a spoiler. He couldn't locate any without a spoiler, but did have 1 coming in this month with a spoiler. I wasn't interested, so I left and have been focusing on getting a 2007 Mazda3 in the Fall.

Today, he emailed to try and entice me to buy the 2006 with the spoiler. His offer is $21,090 with a 6 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty and 4 free oil changes. The car is a silver 2006 Mazda3 Grand Touring sedan with moonroof/Bose stereo and a wing spoiler.

So, now I have to decide if this deal is good enough to (1) deal with a spoiler, and (2) forego the upgraded 2007 model. I'm curious what everyone thinks about the dealer's offer...

I personally don't like the new look of the 07's so I would say buy it now. The only worth while upgrade is the Auxilliary jack. Also, see if you can bargain with the dealer. It doesn't sound like a "great" deal but you may be able to knock off another $500 or so.

yeah thats not a "great" deal at all.... is it a mtx or atx? just those two options seems like its sticker price...???

EDIT FOR INFO!!

off of mazda's website thats 240$ under msrp (that spoiler is a 375$ option if you don't want it you shouldn't have to pay for it) if its a standard... lol great deal

granted that doesn't inclue the 100k power trian (not really needed) and the 4 free oil changes... wupty doo!

It has an automatic transmission, so it's about $900 below MSRP.

I agree the warranty and oil changes don't amount to much.

I might consider the 2006 model if the dealer removed the spoiler without charging me for the body work, and reduced the price to compensate me for foregoing the upgraded model, and accepting the additional depreciation of driving a 2006 vs 2007 off the lot.

At this point, I'm leaning towards waiting for the 2007 model.

i dont like the looks of the 2007 models so i would go with the 06. i just bought an 06 gt about 3 or 4 months ago and i love it. fully loaded minus bose and sunroof. i do have a spoiler though i paid 17,900 for it minus taxes and what not. you can get him to drop it down and be like listen i dont want the spoiler so drop the car to 20 and make it a deal. work him on it im sure you can he seems like hes not making very many sales and really wants you to buy the car

What don't you like about the 2007 model?

i dont like the overall exterior face lift. the front bumber for one has a black plastic peice behind the license plate. i dont like the square fogs. never have never will. they just dont look right. and the back bumper has some more black plastic. i just feel the colors dont flow very much. but thats just my personal choice. you might think differently. mech wise i dont know much but its really only my choice with the exterior changes. if your going to save for an 07 model save more money and get the speed3. but again personal choice. do what you like and what you want. others opinions arent what you want. look at the cars drive the cars and pick what you like. good luck with your decision. im sure weither you take an 06 or an 07 youll love your mazda. i know i love mine. its my first and i really think that it will make me stay with the mazda family.

my 05 has this... maybe I'm thinking of something else? I hate this thing w/ a passion, stupid front plate laws.

funny, I sort of wanted it :)

But yeah, that's not that great of a deal. Warranty is all dependant on the dealer you go to... half the time they'll say "oh, that's not covered under warranty."

I emailed the dealer back and told him I was focusing on the 2007 Mazda3 now, and that for me to consider the 2006, it would take the following:

  • extended warranty
  • 4 free oil changes
  • remove the spoiler and fix holes so that trunk looks perfect
  • $1000 off his price
  • $500 more on my tradein

I doubt he'll go for it, but we'll see. He knows I know exactly what I want, I'm ready to buy, and I'm in no hurry.

I'd go for the '06. The reason I say this is that I went to Mazda's website and under the "Warranty" page there was a note saying that the warranty was changing for '07 vehicles. Starting with MY '07, the basic warranty will be 3 years/36,000 miles instead of 4 years/50,000 miles.

i am in the same boat.

i think i am going to wait for the 2007 model, since i really want the following:

tpms
aux-in jack
traction control
dynamic stability control
galaxy gray paint
rear armrest
white gauges
quieter interior

i think all of these new items add up and are worth the wait.
