Mazda RX-8 Safest Car From Rollover!!

It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. :D

Good to know! and I wouldn't plan on rolling one, but you never know what can happen. hence the rollbar on the miartar...

When asked for comment on the results, GM reissued a statement saying it approved of the new ranking and testing system being used by NHTSA, but that it's important for drivers to realize their chance of accident or injury depended more on their own driving behavior than the vehicle itself.
this is the best PR statement evAR! People need to accept their own responsibility in driving and (if a vehicle can't handle it) DON'T drive so fast or beyond the vehicle's limits!

Here are a couple of RX-8 accidents that have occured and the owners walked away. In this instance the owner (Judge Ito owner of JR's ROtary Performance in New Jersey) attributes the amazing handling of his 8 as the reason for him avaioding a really bad collision.

Quote of accident in case link no work:

I was driving up sunday evening from a beautiful day of New Jersey crab fishing down the jersey shore with my kids. When I was coming home north in the NJ garden state parkway. I was in the slow lane with my cruise control on. About 40 feet infront of me there was a coach bus. The ones that bring people down and up from atlantic city. Suddenly the coach bus comes to almost a complete stop. I did not notice right away(I was adjusting my stereo volume) when I llooked up(it took me no more then 3 seconds to look up) the huge bus was almost at a stand still. At this point I was driving full speed to a rear end collision with a huge bus. I didn't panic and made a sharp left hand pull around the bus. I was able to drive around the bus at 60+ miles per hour. But unfortunately on the left lane another vehicle was driving past us. It so happens to be a state police officer that I literally pulled over. The Rx8 tried to go into a 360 degree turn but I was able to counter steer back and forth and I managed to walk away with my life and my kids life.

to the members that are waiting for the templates I was dealing with insurance adjusters all day monday and tuesday. everything is back to normal in the shop and I'll be shipping tomorrow morning. ..

In this accident an Australian member was in his 8 and was T-Boned by a big truck with a drunk driver at the wheel:

Quote if your not a NP member:
Well, what can I say. I know there's one Rx8 less in Australia, Thanks to a truck driver.
I'll let you guy's picture it.
Your driving down the main street doing 80km/h (55mph) and you come to an intersection with light's and it's green for you, so you drive through, but the truck driver thinks he doesn't need to stop. So he T bones me at speed, (police said he was speeding, doing 60mph) and all I can remember is the car going sideways and hitting a light post.
Next thing I remember is being in hospital with a sore body.

Broken parts: Left Coller bone, 5 broken ribes on the right side, Fractured pelves, Broken right wrist and a very bad headache.

2 weeks later, I'm out of the hospital and 3 days after, had a look at what's supposed to be a Rx8 and what panels weren't damaged the rescue services ripped to get me out of the car.
The only thing is, WHERE THE HELL WAS THE AIR BAGS.

Jen's was in shock for 2 days, and now she's fine. The police notified me that the driver had a blood alcohol of 3 times the limit. BASTARD.

Why I like this guy so much, another quote from the thread:
Got a phone call from my solicitors this morning and they said that the driver of the truck attended court and had his licence suspended for 2 years and his truck licence for life. He must pay all medical bills and court fees. Solicitors told me about the compensation form that they will be processing for the amount of $67000 against the accused and $150000 against the company he works for. I asked my solicitors not to proceed with the claim against the company. It's a bit of money, I know but why should the company pay for there employee stupidity. There going to look into collecting more from the accused.

One more quote from Judge Ito: (the point I was looking for in the thread)

if you were in a less agile car you might have ended up in
the back of the bus

your 100% correct. The fact that I have bonded with the handiling ability that this Rx8 has gave me the opportunity to feel confident in manuvering around the bus. The Rx8 did it's job. Before, and after the accident. I mean the car tried to spin like a record but it didn't. If it would have spun around, I surely wouldn't be here writting this story today. I will not sue but I want Mazda to be aware of the side airbag situation with my case.

I had an incident like that bus one in my '86 RX7. Was cruising around 50 and a truck was at a complete stop about 100 feet in front of me but I didn't notice because he either had no taillights or was in a standard trans and not holding the brake. I finally realized he was stopped at what seemed like 20 feet or less behind him and had to swerve hard to the right and the car never missed a beat. I swear everytime I get in that car it feels like I am driving on rails.
