I hated it when i first noticed about 5 chips on my car. But these things are near unavoidable. Unless you live away from the city and you know see 2 cars in a day, you can't get away.
It's a car, and it must be driven. If it really irritates you, get a invisible bra.

Save two dollars a day for three years. By then your hood/bumper will look even worse and you can get a better-than-factory paint job.

Fine, $3 a day. I once posted a thread about the cost of a better-than-factory paint job and most people told me $2k-$3k. I should hope that would get you something better than the thin load of s*** that was sprayed on these cars to begin with.

Someone hit my drivers door with an EGG and it chipped the paint to s***. I took it to the dealers body shop and the manager was all like "oh i don't think an egg could've done that" . I showed him the shell fragments and pointed out the yolk/white stain. Yeah, the paint is too thin.

crap now how did that happen?
i got my silver prot5 used, a year and a half old, and it had some visible chips in the front. But after i busted out the foglight and kind of messed up the bumper area around it, i figured it was time to get a bra. I thought they looked tight (figuratively as well as literally), so I went to my local Mazda dealer and plunked down $120 for it while I was in there plunking down $115 for the new foglight. Luckily, i had a coupon for 15% off, so i saved a little bit.
The only problems i've had with it is my own damned fault. you have to unscrew the screws that are holding in the front wheel well and replace them with snap-screws, and when I couldn't get one out any more, I just said "to hell with it" and ripped the sucker out. Now the well is a bit warped from that, and my bra has a tendency to sag. You can't really tell unless you get up close to it, though.

i agree with the weak paint. i had a 72 chevy vega, the car rusted out, but the paint held up better than my p5?? anyway, i get the front bumper painted every spring, $350, oh well. joe
