Mazda i-stop not working...

Since getting our diesel cx5 a couple of days ago, the I-stop function hasn't kicked in when coming to a halt at junctions, etc.. Anyone got any idea why this might be?

There is loads on this among this forum, I'm afraid is a case of looking for it.

For a start the battery needs to be at least 75% of full charge.

If you carry out short trips rather than longer runs, it doesn't stand a chance.

Won't kick in if you happen to be in the regeneration period.

I find with mine that in the winter when the lights are used more, the i-stop isn't always to be seen. Like you I thought mine had a problem just after I bought it.

To be honest the best thing is to ignore it, and you will get used to it. Sometimes it is a P.I.T.A. Especially when you have the auto-box and you are in a queue rather than stopped at lights.

all of what alex says plus try switching airflow off from full windscreen demist and put a/c onto ECO or no a/c at all. That increases the chances of it coming on for me.

My I-stop kept coming on at the queue to the m4 severn crossing tollbooths, that was sooooo annoying. it was also quite annoying at Eurotunnel passport control earlier the same day.

Funnily enough I was just about to post on this subject. Mine has this strange randomness about its operation; around town it 'mostly' but not always works but I've noticed it almost always doesn't operate after or during a long run, e.g. after exiting the M5 J9 coming to the traffic lights. It definitely isn't to do with regeneration because I've learnt to recognise when that kicks in.
I'm interested in the suggestion about playing with the controls and will try that next time.

My i-stop mostly works, but what I just cant understand is that some times after about 1 minute it restarts. But I still really love this car.

Mine restarts the engine after about a minute if the Xenon's and aircon are both running, I find that my Diesel auto will istop in a traffic queue only if I firmly apply the footbrake. If i'm light on my feet the engine stays running. ( probably could have phrased that better.;) )

Mines the same, I have yet to work out why.
I wonder if a movement sensor starts it?

I knew there was another thread. I-Stop Started

This is what I posted at the time....

I think it is probably very intuitive, re the restarting itself at lights, mine does that quite often. I put it down to either the pressure in the brake servo has dropped, or the internal comfort needs a boost, either air-con or heater. To be honest doesn't bother me.

Heres one, mine is an auto, and I can be stopped on a slight downhill slope and I-Stop has actuated, if I then take my foot off the brake whilst still in neutral it will start to roll then the engine will immediately start without me selecting drive. Very smart.

I am also impressed that the "hill assist" works on a down-slope as well an an up-slope.

The engine high rev on start-up I can live with, and in any case slip it into gear/drive & the revs drop back to about 750.

My I stop comes on when my car is still moving if I coast to a stop without applying the brakes, probably around 2 mph. So nothing to do with the brake pedal here.

i have a mazda CX5 2.2 diesel auto sky active, i have problems with my istop, it has been working perfect until we left it at Manchester airport for 2 weeks, on our journey home the istop did not work and has not worked for the last 3 weeks. it suddenly started working on a trip to the nec in Birmingham, then after we got home it didn't work again, the battery is fully charged as I use it every day for a 25mile round trip to work on a fast road (dual carriageway 60mph. can anyone give me a hint as too what could be wrong, it is now out of warranty so a trip to the dealer will cost me. thanks

never used it.

switch on, fold out mirrors, clean screens, switch off iStop. reverse out of drive.

I didn't know the CX-5 even has istop! Can you turn it on or of? If so, mine must be off. I had a rental a few months back that had something similar and it was VERY noticeable - but also worked. Either mine's not engaged, not working, or so subtle that i haven't noticed it

Appears to be only on European models

Its total rubbish IMO.

The way it works with an auto is down right dangerous, its best kept turned off. The conditions for it to work are in the download manual.

Wrong. Also standard on Aussie models.

It takes a little getting used to, but it doesnt bother me at all on my Akera.

As others have mentioned there are a variety of factors that will affect whether it activates or not.

Eg on hot days when you have the AC turned on, stop at traffic lights and its common for the iStop to turn the engine off, and then restart after only a short time. This is necessary for the AC compressor so it cools sufficiently.

Its pretty clever, for example if the iStop is activated and you move the steering wheel even a tiny bit, the engine will restart.

When the diesel is in regen mode, iStop is deactivated and indeed, one of the signs that its in regen mode is that the iStop light on the dash goes off.

Some people hate it, and you can turn it off, but it reverts to on when you turn the car off. Others like me dont have any problems with it and just allow it to do its thing.

I dont find anything at all dangreous in its operation with an auto. My ccurrent CX5 is auto, as was its predecessor that I had for 3 years.

Please explain why You think it's dangerous with an auto?
I have it in my CX-3 auto and it works perfectly and has never put in a dangerous situation, so I'm curious as to when that would be.
