I think it is one of the worst if not the worst disasters in world history but I just can't help but disagree with all of the money that we as a country send overseas when we have so many people in our own country that are in need. In NYC alone look at how many homeless people we have as well as how many people die from diseases with no cure yet the US sends billions and billions of dollars to every other country rather than spend it on our own first. When September 11th happened how much money did other countries send to us to help out? Again, I am not against helping others out but I think we should concentrate on our own country more before sending as much money as we do overseas. This is just my opinion and I am sure many will disagree.
Are you serious? Do you know how much support the US recieved in the none "hard" cash value? How many international organizations offered services and specialized man power?

There is also a difference in the sense that the US is a country that "HAS" or is considered a "Have" country with the ability and infrastructure to respond to disasters..."The wealthiest country in the WORLD" can handle themselves (and should be proud of that) Many of the countries and people are in the 3rd world....and struggle as is.

Not to say that 9/11 was not bad...but 3,500 people who died tragically...verus 170,000+ (still counting and will rise due to the after effects).

You can not even compare....

I'm sorry that this thread had to go this route (in fact MODS, please delete if you feel to do so)..... but when I see pictures of the suffering... and become emotional.... how can I not respond to this post.

I agree with you that we have issues here at home, but we really DO have an obligation to help other countries when things like this happen. Yea, the rest of the world might not have sent us billions of dollars after 9/11, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't help the people that this has effected. For one, how would the rest of the world look at us if we just said "oh well, have fun with your rebuilding and we wish you the best of luck"? Furthermore, it is human nature (not american nature), to help out when you can... American's just happen to have a little more freedom when it comes to being able to help out someone else.

I wanted to reply to that post, but I don't want to clutter this important thread with an arguement such as this. I apoligize for responding, but felt like I had to. KWSUPRA, you should make another thread to discuss this if you want to argue it further.

Looking at your post count, I'm wondering if you are a member of this board that created a new account just to voice your opinion. That would be sad...
Yeah, there are a lot of people in our own country in need of assistance, but there are a lot of those that are in the position they are in by CHOICE. Homeless people, people on welfare...Some of them are there because they don't feel the need to better themselves. They want hand outs because they don't want to work hard like the rest of us.
The victims we are helping with this donation had no choice in this matter. They didn't ask to be swept from their homes, and have their loves one killed by the tsunamis. Do you want to know what the really sad part in this whole matter is? The fact that private donations from United States companies/corperations/people had exceeded what Bush was going to send. But we can spend all this money and lose countless US soldiers in Iraq fighting a war that seems damn near pointless for us, and them for that matter. But that's another argument for another thread. Like it's been mentioned before, you just got done celebrating Christmas, giving and receiving a shitload of presents, and you can't send 5 or ten dollars?? That's like one less meal you will have in your lifetime, and that's too much...(headshake

I agree with you 2k3 on many of the points that you make. Their are many homeless people out their that are in that position because they have decided not to help themselves or for whatever reason. It is sad that we spend all of this money in Iraq instead of on other issues where it would be much better spent but we are also forgetting something. Anyone country that has the nerve to call the US cheap for not pledging enough money should be ashamed. This country gives out more money to countries in need than anyone else PERIOD. I apologize if what I was saying came off sounding cold because it wasn't intended to. All I am saying is that with all of the insanely high costs of things like health care and many other things it is aggravating as hell to see our government always handing out money to other countries. As far as the tsunami goes I have no problem helping out their but all of this wasted money in Iraq and elsewhere is just rediculous.

I am a new member on here and didn't just stop in to discuss this issue. I worked for Mazda for 5 years and love their cars. What do you guys think of the Mazaspeed 6 coming out?

Damn.... lol

(bump) Bump for getting the forum closer to the goal! We are nearly there! Thanks to everyone that has donated what they could. Even though you dont think your contribution matters, it counts toward the goal and in the grand scheme of things, helps out everyone in the end.

guys, this thread has kept me busy beyond belief (updating donation amounts)
i will simply post the donations collected so far whenever possible.

Its SO time consuming to try and keep tabs on who has donated :(

if you WANT, i could list full names, but thats almost worthless.

Yes we do give more and we should. We are the leader of the free world. It is with acts of kindness that we can help make the world better place. This will cost us money yes, maybe 400 mil when it is all over. But this is better then 200 bil plus losing thousand of our men and women in combat going to war.

Sorry for this thread jack.

Great job people, keep up the great work.

Donation sent from roni_michaels @ yahoo.com. The total should be over $1k including my donation..

no donations since 1130am. Come on people! I'll donate $10 more on top of the next donation of $25 or over, but after that, I'll have to wait for my next paycheck :(
