I have been a Disaster Response Leader for the Central Jersey chapter of the ARC since shortly after 9/11. I have never been paid by them. Look around and ask for more information if you don't believe that the disaster relief they provide is worthwhile. And look at the International Red Cross and Red Crescent. This isn't a fly-by-night organization.

If you are truly skeptical about it, don't donate to them, donate to someone else. But please try to provide documented information if you have it, instead of making assumptions and spreading rumors.

It's not as if the bad reputation will hurt the company's stockholders, it's a non-profit organization which undergoes countless internal and external audits. All that the bad rep will do is try to force us to abandon the people we try to help.

I just mailed off a $1 check to make it a total
$1337 donated. (thumb)

they are going to be like WTF A DOLLAR?!?!

I would like to see where you guys are getting your information on the Red Cross. If you are pulling it out your ass that is sad. If there really is info about them not using money properly then post it. I have nothing but good things to say about them. They send messages to military members with dead relatives for free in a very timely fashion.
Ummm no im not pulling it out of my ass. The fact is they have lost lawsuits over this. Do some a simple google searches and you will find all you need.

You are posting links from the red cross to prove their innocence? Thats like proving saddams innocence by linking to speeches of his.

Anyway here are multiple news articles from multiple sources talking about what the red cross did after 9/11

I really dont want to turn this into a debate im just trying to inform people who want to donate and make sure they donate to the right place.

Well, I'm glad some of us could give for a good cause for once. Everyone's always shelling out bullsh*t , it's about time we shell out loot to help others. Yayyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!! lol

I am not bashing the Red Cross altogether, but there are and were things that some of the higher ups got caught doing. Overall they are a good organization that does alot of good. I am just glad I could contribute. I just wish I had more.

Thank you for sharing your perspective without bashing. It is unfortunate that in many organizations that handle donations, there have been instances of individuals stealing. That is sickening, but it happens from time to time in non-profit organizations and religious institutions.

In reference to the google links that were posted, there are many instances noted of people stealing from the Red Cross by misrepresenting themselves as victims of disasters and receiving relief money. Having been a Red Cross volunteer for the last few years, I have been exposed to people attempting to collect money for disasters that they were not impacted by.

There are also instances of corrupt individuals who stole money. That's horrible, but how many companies and organizations are victims of having individual employees or volunteers steal from them?

The links I gave were simply the Red Cross's explanations, trying to help clarify what the intentions were and what outside organizations audit their books.

It's a good idea to give to reputable charities, feel free to give to whichever one you choose.
